Pedals you love but wish.......

What I want lately is that any 3PDT true bypass pedal that I buy has latching relay switching instead. I have grown to hate these blue 3PDTs that get put in pretty much every true bypass effect and go POP through your speakers whenever you step on them.

KORG put a relay switching circuit on a tuner, damn it, why can't the rest of the industry adopt this great technology? It would make the effects cost only about $5 more...

And EHX could have made the Q-tron plus smaller...
 
Wish the Woolly Mammoth had a clean blend, an adjustable input impedance, was orientated vertically, and was priced reasonably.

Wish Maxon vintage series pedals were smaller and had tru-bypass.

Wish Tech21 would release all of their character series in their programmable 3 presets configuration.

Wish every pedal had stereo in's and out's. Wish every pedal utilized a charge pump so it could be powered from a 9v daisy chain, but provide even greater headroom. Wish every dirt pedal had an internall trim pot to adjust the low frequency cut-off.

Wish every pedal on earth would be housed in the next smaller size enclosure. :D

Wish this overdrive would get nastier, and wish that distortion was milder. Wish that fuzz wouldn't sputter, and wish this fuzz would gate harder. Wish I could find a fuzz pedal that would be the end-all to my fuzz search :scowl:.

Wish digital delays repeats weren't so pristine, and wish analog delays had more clarity.

Every pedal always has something small that could be tweaked more to our liking. With so many variations keeps me coming back for more. Grateful there are so many Effects Genies (a.k.a. boutique builders) to make these wishes come true.
 
I wish that Source Audio had stuck to their SoundBlox format for their EQ pedal and included a Tuner in the pedal. It would have solved two of my problems at the same time.

I wish all pedals that are 18v had a built-in power pump. And those pedals that can run on 9v to 18v, but "sound better at 18v" would cut to the chase and have the power pump built-in so it would sound its best from the start.

This is an instance of where a buzzword "True Bypass" has forced an industry into a flawed direction for the last 8 years or so.

The best solution is what TC have put in some of their new pedals. It is EITHER relay switching OR analog buffered bypass. Best of both worlds, because each has its benefits given placement on the pedal board.

I will note that a well implemented analog buffered bypass will always be less POPPY than any form of TRUE BYPASS (3PDT switch or relay). It is not possible to remove any charges built up in true bypass system, hence the POP.

Asking for "true bypass" without knowing what you really need can have unintended consequences!

Having the ability to choose between buffered bypass or "true bypass" is handy. The Malekko Ekko 616 offers that. When I run the pedal with in amp's FX loop, I don't need the buffering on.

Is there such a thread already, that I am missing? Or we probably should ask the mods to separate it?

I am referring to the relay switching in the KORG Pitchblack tuner, because it is the only pedal that I own that is true bypass and has inaudible switching noises at the same time. I don't claim there are no noises at all, but they are at levels so low that they are not heard through the amp. On the other hand the two other real true 3PDT true bypass effects that I have - you can always hear when I am engaging them (unless the drummer covers it with his break) and that has bugged the hell out of me.

I read somewhere that having all effects true bypass and no buffering at all can degrade your tone, but I never figured out exactly why.

It was explained that it is because the length? of wire the signal has to travel in the effects, but it doesn't make sense to me, cause I have got ~ 20 ft. of cable from the bass to the pedals and another ~ 20 ft. from the pedals to the amp. so how much difference do another, say 3 ft. make? OK, said 3 ft. are not shielded instrument cable, but they are in (mostly) metal boxes, which are tied to ground, so that must have some shielding effect.

Or is it about total capacitance of the wires shorting the high end to ground? That makes "some" sense, because if the wires are not decoupled the equivalent capacitance is the sum of all the different wires' capacitance. Does 40 ft. of cable make that much of a difference? In any case if it does a filter in the middle of the equivalent 40 ft. wire would mean higher cut-off frequency with a steeper slope?

If buffering is done through op-amps, which I suppose is at least 80% of the cases then I guess that the all-tube players didn't want them cheap semiconductors to "spoil" their all-tube tone and suddenly everybody wanted the true - wire to wire bypass?

At least I don't have to worry about that - the first thing my signal meets on its way out of the bass is the buffered input of the bass crybaby and my amp is solid state anyway :)

Lastly - would you please give an example of a TC effect that has the option of buffered - relay switched bypass?

Wish Tech21 would come out with a version of their bass driver that started out flat, but offered the "mid-scoop" option as a switch. Rather than having the mid-scoop hard-wired as the starting point.

Just put a switch on there and label it "METAL!" or something. :D Maybe call it the "DOOM" switch?

I also wish that every single pedal made .... had the option of phantom-powering it via an XLR output or input. But that's for another thread.
 
I wish my BMS had a built in effects loop and exprssion pedal control of the filter sweep.

Wish the BMS had save-able presets like the POG2. Maybe next reissue will.

Wish the original groove regulator had all the feature of the GR2 so I wouldn't have to buy another one :(. Wish the original VT Bass had speaker sim defeat so I woundn't have to buy another one :(. Wish Devi Ever would just jam 6 of her fuzzes into one enclosure so I wouldn't have to buy another one :(.

Wish the Turbo Tuner had a 9v output for adding a daisy chain like the Pitchblack does.

Save-able presets would be sweet. And I'm with ya on the dual stereo inputs. I have a few pedals with dual outs but only one input. It would be nice not to be handcuffed on how I run them in my chain.
