PedalTrain Users: Soft or Hard Case?

I really want to pick up a PedalTrain here soon.
My dilemma though is that I can get a Pro version w/ bag for slightly less than a 2 version w/ the ATA case.

How protective is the gigbag version? I'm pretty nice to my pedalboard as it is, but I'm just afraid it's gonna accidentally get crushed or something and I'll be out those units.

I say, if the PT2 suits your needs, go with that. Who wants to lug around a larger pedalboard with empty space? Unless of course you intend to get more pedals and use the space the PT Pro offers. If you do, then by any means go for that - and debate between the Pro SC or HC. My point is, your space needs should dictate this decision. Personally I would go with the ATA case, just because in a soft case some control knobs could be accidentally turned, and especially if you're gonna cover a PT Pro with pedals it won't be so easy to remember your previous settings on each pedal.

Actually, since the X2 receiver isn't a stompbox (you don't have a button to step on), I'm sure you could work something out... for example, putting it on its side between two pedals, or under the PT, or even under some other pedal if it's sturdy enough and there are no dropouts.

I have a HC for my Pro and a SC for my Jr. The HC is great, but it weighs a ton and it's huge! I use my Jr as my "gigging essentials" board, and it's small, so it's easier to lug around. I don't think that SC is that protective, which is why I went for the HC on my Pro. Considering that my board costs a small fortune, I figure it's the least I could do to protect it. When I use the Jr, I am more careful with it...but it's still protected pretty well.

I got my Pro HC as a scratch & dent on MF for a really good price...like the cost of a new SC version. It was brand new!!! I think someone opened it and realized how big it was and then sent it back...

Yeah that too. I think the Pro might be just a tad overwhelming for me. ;)

As a rule of thumb, I'd say that the bigger the board, the more essential a hard case is.

With my old Pedaltrain 2, I'd have really liked a hard case (a lot of expensive pedals were on it). But with the Pedaltrain Jr. that I've got now, the light weight and durability of the soft case has been good enough for me.

If I were to ever get a PT Pro, I would definitely get a hard case without a second thought. A board that big is going to have a lot of money sitting on it, if you know what I mean!

The ATA case it comes with is really nice. Pretty burly, but not uncomfortable to carry. Its ready for some serious gig abuse. Might be overkill, but I don't think a bag would offer much protection at all, so I'd rather be on the safe side.

I know you have a PT2 as well- do you mind posting it real quick? I want to see how much you can fit on it! :D

Sounds like you would. If you looked at my photo, you can see that I could fit about 10 Boss-sized pedals on there. You've got one pedal (the Bi-Chorus) that's about the size of my LBM, plus six pedals that are Boss-sized (TU-2, MultiComp, LS-2, TS9DX, GEB-7, DD-3). The EB Volume pedal would take up the room of two pedals that size, more or less. The X2 receiver is about the size of a Boss pedal.

Overall, that adds up to 10. I think it'll work out, but the volume pedal may make things difficult.

Well I'm still hesitant about mounting the X2 receiver, so if it came down to it, that's what I'd leave off.
Still, the PT Pro would be a tad large for just these items, methinks. ;)

I bought the softcase version of the pt jr and then had a hardcase made for it, one that I can leave the board in which to me is much better than the standard cases.

I also had a PT one with the briefcase style case and it just didn't do it for me felt flimsy.

I also had the PT Pro with the hardcase and it's pretty damn huge with that thing but it is a very very high quality flightcase that is easy to move.

The contents are in flux though.

My sadowsky DI will replace the bigshot and a custom Barge looper will become the centerpiece.

Then the multidrive will become a RAT and I'll be a happy camper.
