Am currently looking at a beautiful Pedulla Buzz 4 string in vintage cherry on Reverb. I would like to hear opinions and insights on this particular bass and it's condition. One part that prompts concern is the back cover does not seem to match the rest of the back as the other Buzz's I have looked at. Thank you all, Bill. Pedulla Buzz

That bass looks to be in pristine condition - save for the finish on the fingerboard in the one closeup. It's good that they shows the photo, but I didn't see anything in the description about what is actually going on there. Pedulla's are known to have a really good fingerboard finish, thou I don't know if there have ever been issues with them needing to be refinished. But judging by how great the rest of the bass looks, I'm surprised at that FB coating. It will definitely need a FB refinish.
I'm not sure the back cover is such a big deal, I mean it has to come from a total different piece of wood, so they have to try and match another piece as much as possible. Maybe this one would look better under different lighting…

But I also want to warn you about some snobbery you may encounter regarding high-end basses like this and the title of this thread.

I once made the mistake of mentioning a "5-string PentaBuzz". I was quickly admonished about my ignorance regarding the brand and model, pointing out how dumb I am.
"Of course it's a 5-string! It's in the name silly!" Was more or less what I got in response.
The 4-string is a Buzz, 5-string is a PentaBuzz. No need to reiterate how many strings it has.
I have to say, though, I'll never make that mistake again…

I have a couple Peds. On one the grain of the cover is integrated with the bout, in one it's not. I see what you mean but it may not reflect a problem. He may not have had enough wood ftom the same cut to make a match.
Ask for a picture of the control cavity, including the underside of the cover. For a short timepoint Michael included the model and serial of the bass on the cover. It may not be there but if it is it will be useful.
Ask them to remove the truss rod cover and include a pic. Ask them to confirm that the rod is fully functional.
Ask if there are any blemishes or worn spots on the fretboard. It's hard to tell from the pics.

This reads to me like the seller just took this verbatim (cut and paste?) from a Pedulla brochure/website.
I asked the seller about the cover,(original/refinish?) and his reply was, "To my my knowledge, yes.
This is a consignment for an estate, so I cannot see original owner as he's passed on" Not reassuring. There is another Buzz on Reverb at a better price,(and a more knowledgeable, helpful seller,) but the finish doesn't quite do it for me. Truly appreciate the input from you all.
