Instead of falling prey to the "high-mass bridge" or "string through" or "proper setup" rubbish I just buy two or three pickguards at a time and stack their tone-shaping plastic sheets. As an added bonus you get "road-worn" cred when people notice that a little corner of the plastic is starting to peel off. That's the mark of a working man's bass.
If I'm not mistaken, if you leave those on for too long, they'll fuse to your pickguard and get all nasty and gunky. I'd say take it off.
Yes and it just looks stupid. I honestly can't believe anybody voted to leave it on.

I think he's talking about scabs. As far as the plastic cover, take it off. Not only does it look ridiculous, it's MEANT to be taken off.
