There is weird uncomfortable and there is weird quirky/funny. I am the latter I hope.

They would sell their own children for a chance to open for Poison on tour (today....not back in the 80s when Poison was cool).

You had to be the the right age. If you're too old, or too young, they never were. If you're in the sweet spot of age, and into mainstream radio rock, they were cool for a couple of years.

I still like Poison, I mean with with 100% honestly. I was and is fun. I play in band now with a good friend who is the biggest Pearl Jam fan I've ever met. Loves 90's grunge and that whole era. We give each other crap about our musical tastes. I've told him many times that PJ's flannel was probably just and trend or A&R influenced as Poison's big hair and leather. When we cover Poison we get a way better reaction that Pearl Jam by the way. I'm convinced is because people don't come out to the kind of places we play to contemplate things and listen to depressing music.

They are not bad. But yeah you need to note the changes . It's not 4 5 down.

People are weird, regardless of whether they're musical, artistic, or Joe Averages.

If you want really weird, check out the people who attend political rally's (at either end of the spectrum), or many faith based groups.... All that really matters is whether they're harmless weird, or the other type.

There are reasons why some people AREN'T in bands....could be weird or maybe unrealistic expectations, could be personally conflicts or any number of eccentricities, or maybe not dedicated or talented enough to be in a band.

Many of us have run into people like this...and hopefully steer clear of them in a band setting.

I know roughly 1/3 of them. Or basically what constituted most of the their singles album from the 80s (45s and Under). It was one of those of Columbia House mainstays most folks I knew got along with Steve Miller Band and Eagles greatest hit albums.

I think Squeeze was a fantastic and talented band. I would love to be in a Squeeze-ish inspired band (with notes of Joe Jackson and The Jam). But I would never be in Squeeze tribute band. I would probably never be in any tribute band. That $hi+ whack. I like playing covers about as much as I like hearing cover bands. Which is to say, not at all.

I would love to be in a zillion different fantastic and talented band inspired bands. But I can only really be in one at a time.

On the 50+ crowd recording and playing original music... Some of us are in fact (fairly) stable, and fully accept it's our hobby and labor of love, if not vanity projects. I also have other hobbies, too. None of them involve my family, sadly enough. So I have to moderate them and balance them very tightly both physically and financially. So, little things like promotion and marketing for my home recordings any more than Facebook posts to family and friends is off the table. Doesn't really bother me, since I don't pay attention to anyone else's marketing and promotion, either. I'll be all right in the end. I mean, I specifically chose not to be a pro musician. That pretty much put the nail in the coffin for ever making it big. Thanks for y'all's concern, though! Luv ya! Take care!

Same here. Wanna really piss them off? Tell them Nirvana killed rock not saved it. Rock stopped being fun, and young people who wanted to fun music moved on. Just my .02. 30 years later we see that grunge was even more of a blip on the timeline than hair metal/glam rock, new wave, punk, etc.

All musicians are weird, it is just a matter of degree. If you are fortunate you can find some whose weirdness you can tolerate and who can tolerate yours.

But love Squeeze, listened to them back in the day and they still hold up well. Would I want to commit to learning a lot of their songs? My philosophy is always if you can give me a basic chord chart (or I can find one online) I'll give it a go. Learning new songs/genres is always good.

I couldn't agree with you more. Grunge MURDERED my local misoc scene and it hasn't recovered since. People like to blame it on DJs and cheap club owners. That's interesting that grunge killed your local music scene. I grew up in small town SC, and the 90s invigorated what little music scene we did have. There was a club where a lot of regional bands always played, and my original band at the time could pull in 500+ people there at the height of our popularity. We weren't "grunge," but we had more in common musically with those bands than others at the time.

Locally it was huge, but it didn't really spread too far outside of the DC area.

I like a lot of different kinds of music. I've gigged playing bluegrass, jazz, rock, blues, "singer/songwriter," "hits," roots, standards, et al. I have (almost) always found something to like about these situations. I like listening to all kinds of music, too.

Squeeze was a top shelf pop band. To compare their catalog unfavorably to Poison is asinine. They crafted magnificent pop records and have long been highly esteemed in the industry. Find the BBC doc, if you can. Find out about all the talent that was in this band.

I play music mainly for fun, for intellectual stimulation, to be part of something bigger than myself, for personal growth, many reasons. (For money is not really one of them, so my situation is different than some of you.) Challenging music is fun. Working out some Squeeze tunes would be fun, for me, anyway. I'd certainly rather do that than regurgitate Classic Rock, for example. That, to me, would be beating a dead horse. Difford and Tillbrook's tunes are a treasure trove of songwriting and arranging craftsmanship. Most of us could learn some valuable lessons deconstructing and reconstructing some of the gems in their catalog. Or not, I guess. YMMV. LOL.

But to write off someone who wants to do this as "weird?" Look in the mirror, bro.
