You might be getting too old for this, but I feel you. It's the time for the internet generation where everyone's safe typing whatever they can't tell you in person behind their computers. They are like those blank firing pistols. And they're not on reverb only, they're everywhere.

Reverb used to be a great site. It was either musicians or decent music stores selling on the site. They had their rules and for the most part everyone would abide by them. The first couple of years of the site I never had an issue either buying or selling. Now the site is owned by internet retailer Etsy, and it all changed. They let any and everyone on the site to buy and sell. They've raised their fees so high it's not worth it to me anymore to fool with them. And, I've had more trouble both buying and selling in the past year than I've had on ebay in 8 years. I've had three non paying buyers this year. I bought 2 basses in a row that were never shipped. I was ignored by both sellers as to why. Complained to Reverb support only to be told I had to deal with it myself through Paypal. I bought 2 basses from private sellers described as excellent that were absolute junk. One had a neck so twisted it wouldn't even play. And the questions I get and the low ball offers. One guy said to me "thats all I got so sell it to me". And the pricing on the site has gotten so out of wack. I saw a Squire Affinity Bronco bass on the site yesterday. The guy put a Dimarzio pup in it. With the case he wants $580. It's a $149 bass with an $80 pickup. And that's new. His is used with what he described as buckle rash. That's nuts!! It's a nice place to look around at night but I'm done with them.

i feel like if someone has to ask the string spacing for a bass.. they obviously dont know anything about that bass; and shouldn't be interested in buying from someone off the internet without playing one first.

The weight thing.. because every time ive gone out of my WEIGH to give someone a basses weight.. it always ends up being a few grams too heavy for their poor old back.

Sometimes if I keep getting low-balled, I’ll gradually start lowering the list price until it’s well below the lowball offers. By then I’ll have a mailbox full of messages waiving money at me, at which point I’ll end the listing and keep the item for a few more weeks. If that doesn’t speak to my poor mental health, I don’t know what does.

I try to imagine people have little English in these situations and give them a hand, it’s super easy to just ignore people, it takes effort to be nice and it’s usually worth it, I have met many great people from humble starting points

No problem there. I either ignore them or counter them wtih my low number. But I am admitingly a low baller. Part of that come from my father who always told me "If they are not insulted by your first offer, you are too high." I can't tell you how many times I was MF'ed for making an offer. One of them almost led to a violent altrication.

I still don't understand why people get so upset by it. Either the two parties meet on a price, or they don't.

Perhaps they thought they were at some illicit substance site, hawking a new substance named “Reverb”... it renders them senseless and friendly...
Hence being “on Reverb” takes on a whole new connotation...o_O

I find on reverb having a conversation just like a PM from a TB classifieds ad goes a long way in making a deal. Maybe that person didn't know a better way to spark up a conversation.

I talk before I offer on bigger ticket items because I want to know if the item has sentimental value to them or not. That guides me on what I'm willing to offer without insulting someone but looking for a good deal myself.
