man i am the opposite of the op. somebody asks a question about one of my items and I'll chat with them off and on all day. part of it is because I'm so stoked to have cool stuff up for sale!
chatted a bunch with one of the guys who bought one of my two speed Leslie motors and his feedback said i was helpful and friendly!

Platitudes are never helpful.
I've had mixed experiences on Reverb. I suggest you ignore that message unless there is a followup with more substance.

Nope. But it sure has been MADE hard by the last few generations. It's actually quite easy.
Haven’t read all through the thread, but you may want to consider the possibility that it could be a foreign (potential) customer. Had an opening message similar to this from a Japanese ebayer once. Gave me 3 times what I intended to get for an old tool box. A few days later there was a flurry of those same boxes put up, with new much higher buy it now prices. I didn’t complain.
Well, I ended up responding by just saying "Hello". His response, "Can you give me a discount?"
I literally dropped the price by a LOT a day or two ago.
Hmm. Well if he was “watching” your item he knows you just lowered it. I’d tell him you already did.
You don't get what you don't ask for. You also don't always get what you ask for. Decline the offer, move along.
Good thing you said “literally”. I’d hate for anyone to think you were speaking rhetorically.
I buy/sell basses all the time on TB, eBay and Reverb. Every site has people asking questions, lowballing and being stupid. But in the end, I'm the one trying to sell a product. So I do whatever I can to make sure their questions are answered and they feel acknowledged... yes, even if they only send a 'Hello'.
On a couple of occasions, I’ve dealt with folks who are simply inexperienced with the process. One guy in particular kept asking me to call him. I wouldn’t do it bc I thought it was a scam. Turns out, he was 60+ years old with little-to-no internet experience. Once I figured out that he was just a guy who didn't know how all this worked, but he was interested in my $4500 Fodera, I called him (from my Google Voice number) and walked him through the process. It was a great transaction and we've stayed in touch since.
I could have assumed he was a troll. I could have gotten butt-hurt by his request for string-spacing and weight. And I could have missed out on a $4k+ sale.
Never forget-- coffee is for closers.
