I know. I think they thought they had a rig but the bass itself that they use is pretty junky and extremely quiet. When they went to use it, it wasnt good enough. I should tell them to rent one.

Only person who uses my rig is the bass player at my church. And since I'm running sound I can make sure it's treated right.
Side note: The reason my rig is at church is because it cleaned the bass tone up so much that the whole mix is better.

This. Ive had it happen to me. The stock response is: "hmm...it was working fine for me, see ya", then YOU need to buy new gear (or sue them)

In the olde daze we playahs would carry our axes around with us, expected to be asked to sit in. Don't know if you recall a film about Jimi, shows him bumming around NYC with his strat. Musicians used to be a friendlier group in general, IMO

There are only a few people that I would allow to borrow my gear. There are some that I would make an excuse to why I couldn't loan them the gear. The rest would be a flat out, "No".

If they will pick it up, pay you for using it, and return it to your house (and pay for any damage) go for it. If they don't agree, forget it.

Yeah it sucks but i may drive the forty minutes to get my amp head out of the practice space ... I want to be a nice guy and help out but i also dont want anything to happen to it.

Letting others abuse you does NOT make you a nice guy - it just makes them more likely to try to take advantage of you later on!

the deposit is missing a zero. But I decided long ago renting wasn't worth the inconvenience and risk. Anyone who isn't special asks to borrow, I tell them I'm not in the rental business.

You can be diplomatic and still say "no". If necessary, be a jerk. This stuff is expensive and no one cares as much about your gear as you do.

If you lend it, expect it to be abused and/or broken. That's the way it goes. If it were me, there would be two choices. Rent it to them or say "no".

How about you exchange the old rig for his girl friend (collateral), so during the use of your gear, you can use his.
If he is OK with that then he can use your rig.
