Double Bass People who carry a firearm (DB Forum Thread)

"Oreo" is what they call dark skinned kids who openly aspire to anything other than gang life. It's usually B - A+ students catching bullets, often after some hallway beef in school, sometimes it's just "I hate that guy".

Skin- rape. Only four filed reports of gang attempts on adult women last year. There are several pregnant rape victims under 15 in each of our city schools. One is twelve. This year there's been one teacher and two students who got violently groped, a five-on-two rape in the gym and lots of consentual sex in just one highschool that I'm aware of.
Your description of oreo is a bit disturbing. When you say "dark skinned" do you mean blacks or dark skinned blacks? Thanks
FF

"Wrong and dangerous. The only reason to carry a handgun should be to shoot and kill someone. It's not a deterrent and you don't fire warning shots or wave it at people to scare them away. That behavior will put you in much more danger than not having one.

This isn't a subject that I really want to expose my knowledge of on talkbass, but I am happy to suggest a few books and resources to you if you're interested in personal safety. I neither want to speak out for or against guns, but if you are thinking about carrying one, I really suggest some deeper knowledge and introspection first.

I will say that I grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and have a lot of experience handling guns. I learned as a child to be very safe with them and I'm not anti-gun exactly, but I don't chose to carry or posses them personally and I live in a decent sized city and have lived in larger, more dangerous ones in the past. I've witnessed and been around violence in Seattle and it's not made me second guess my own personal decision not to carry a firearm. I have friends who have made the opposite decision and some of them have gone through great lengths to ensure that they are properly trained and prepared, which I respect. Maybe they've made the right decision for them, I can't really say"

I like you Troy so I am not trying to start anything. But, How exactly is a simple statement about gun laws not applicable to this topic? Especially when the OP mentions being curious on restrictions.. a.k.a. laws.
You shared your opinion on the matter of carrying guns Troy K, and gave your reasons. And, very passionately told someone that they were flat out wrong. All I did was simply state that guns laws or restrictions, don't stop criminals from carrying weapons, and stated that it is in own constitution for those from abroad. I stated these as a justification for carrying a gun, which is the subject. Seems as if you are not being impartial, on the subject.
Aside from this weird "Oreo" comment. Everyone is being polite in this thread, why would you need to moderate, if you did, you would certainly have to moderate your posts as well. Best,

Did that DB forum thing just get posted today? Didn't notice it when I initially read this thread. It's got me thinkin a bit though....

Something smells a bit off bout that to me. OP only wants responses from those who play DBs? Am I missing something here?

I didn't say overthrow, (now who's being a drama queen) and blatantly stating something that I did not say.

I simply stated why our restrictions, and laws, are the way the are with gun guns, because a lot of foreigners might not understand why they were originally implemented.

Sorry, you don't like my reasons and justifications for someone making a personal decision to carry a gun.

I guess your experience in TX and OK with guns makes you the ultimate authority and on whats relevant and, that your opinions a moderator are more valid anyone else's. Maybe I should become a mod, so my opinions can be more valid than others, and get to tell people that they are wrong.. And not see any problems with that.

I've always respected your moderator skills in the past, but in this particular instance, It's sort of hard to take you seriously at this point. Especially since you have posted so passionately in this thread and are simply misrepresenting what was said.. So go ahead moderate away. It's just very sad for TB.

I didn't mean to make anything fishy. If you're asking why this was posted on the double bass side, I would say feel free to post to the bass guitar side. My reasoning for posting here (on the double bass side) quite frankly is that this is the side of talk bass I come to. I rarely if ever venture over to the bass guitar side. It just didn't occur to me. I didn't mean to exclude that side of the website by any means.

I probably started this with my first comment, didn't mean it to go that way, I truly find the American psyche interesting, and I don't judge, I just observe.

I won't argue against the American way of life, I love the U.S. And hope to marry my American girlfriend and move there one day. Greatest f'n country in the world as far as I'm concerned.

But to say gun laws don't stop homicides is untrue. You can look at any gun controlled, 1st world country, and see the stats are there to prove it does. Yup, you can kill anyone with anything, but it's a lot friggin harder! Again, the overall homicide rates are lower in all those countries. An abundance of guns make it easier.

Regardless, I see the things that may make the U.S. seem frustrating to people from other countries... and it is that same attitude that made that country great.
But maybe sticking to 250 year old rules doesn't always work, but then again, it's too late to change it, you'll only pry those guns from their cold, dead fingers.

It's not too late. It's just extremely difficult. Not enough awful stuff has happened, if you can believe it, which is what probably would be needed in order to change popular opinion. Gun ownership here is steeped in tradition, myth, paranoia and a strong sense of entitlement. It won't change overnight. But it probably will, eventually.

I'm for free access to live hand grenades - they're safe, no really. What could go wrong? I'd be a responsible live grenade owner - keep it in a closet or something

In addition, a reminder to all about several of our rules. They are what they are for a reason, and we all signed off on them when we agreed to abide by them when we registered. That said,
