Where did you get this info? I have lived in multiple states, and been to more than half, and nowhere is it legal to open carry (unless legally hunting of course)?

I totally disagree. If you pull a gun you need to be READY to respond with lethal force, but if the act of pulling it stops the aggressor, all the better. Why do you think cops yell "DROP THE GUN NOW" or "GET ON THE GROUND" or some such? They don't WANT to shoot, but are ready to if necessary. I grew up with a LEO dad, and with guns. I rarely carry, but think I have been trained well. Pulling the trigger is something you do when you have no options left.

I'll be darned.....you are correct loveandbass! I just happen to have lived in 4 where it is not legal. Heck I grew up in MA and only LEO's carried there, but it is apparently legal to open carry there (with a permit). I never saw a regular guy/gal open carry there in over 30 years. Maybe you need to be a LEO or in security or similar to get a permit in those states? Dunno, but I learned something....thanks! Found it strange that Texas is one of the states that ban open carry (as is Florida). I'd have thought if is was legal anywhere, it'd be Texas! Go figure!

(Since many TBers miss sarcasm, that was a joke. Canadian officials do not actually issue travel warnings about America.)

The Texas legislature just overturned their ban on open carry and have sent the law to the Governor for approval.

Kindly ironic, considering that the law was originally enacted to 'keep the Confederates and the freed slaves' from carrying guns.

yep its a woodblock relief print I made in honor of my brother in law's fox that was lost in a terrible house fire in Brazil last year.

Was going to print them for sale to help him buy a new one but life's hurdles have gotten in the way (kids)

That is pretty funny. When I was child the common joke was that the West Edmonton Mall had more fully functional submarines that our navy... except I am pretty sure this was actually true in the 90s...

People have stated there opinion, now I will share mine.
The idea that gun laws stop criminals from having guns, is about as dumb as thinking prohibition laws would keep people from drinking. Or that drug laws keep people form using drugs. If someone hasn't been convicted of any crimes, I see know reason why they shouldn't legally be able to have a gun for protection. Before I moved, I used to hear gunshots on a weekly basis, and lets just say none of the shots I heard, were by legal gun owners. With people rioting and protesting, (which more and more means looting and hurting people and destroying private property) Yes, I want a gun, so when they bust down my door or god forbid my wife is home alone, I'm or she will be ready to dissuade them. The police just don't respond quick enough. My friend owns a liquor store, and 3 times, people have tried to rob him at gunpoint. Let's just say its like the scene from crocodile dundee, except with a gun.. "That's not a gun, this is a gun". I think people have gotten the hint, because now the other liquor stores in the area gets robbed, not his. Sure if you live in Canada, where somebody getting a parking ticket makes the news, you may not feel the need to own a guy, but every place is different. Not mention it's in our constitution, it's not just for protection, it's so that if our government is no longer meeting the needs of it's people, we can can assemble and demand change. With politician being legally bought by big business and private special interests groups. This sounds more and more like a good idea.

You can kill somebody with almost anything, should we outlaw kitchen knives, hammers, and basses too. Cause It wouldn't be hard to kill somebody with one of my basses, if I wanted to. I don't have permit to carry, but I'm not against anyone who feels that they need the protection, due to their personal situation or area. Best,

i agree and sorry TroyK if I've started a controversial tread. I was expecting a few answers of "If I have a gig that is in a bar, I leave my gun in the car home etc" or something along those lines. I understand this is a "off topic" part of talk bass but I don't see a need to get into the gun debate. There are plenty of websites for one to discuss that matter further.
