When you write 'divining' rod, I'm sure you mean 'dividing' rod. We educated types call them Cuisenaire Rods. Yours may need some whittling, I imagine.

Regarding your 'switch'. This would need to be more flexible, to be true. It's more a cane, possibly a club.

Your next claim, that it may be a small piece of string from a guitar tree. Playing devil's Advocaat, it might also be a toggle or a wang bar but isn't it more like a giant swizzle-stick, really, when you think about it?

I have no argument with your last point. Not because you're right. My brain just left the building. It does that, from time to time.
