GIGADEAD - Auditions starting soon (st.paul)

Well established Metal group founder looking for musicians interested in playing LIVE. I'm the main song writer and recording engineer, so any questions can be directed towards
the person leaving this add.

Hello to all local Metal musicians ! I'm the founder of a Metal band called Gigadead and play all instruments in a five piece group (multi-instrumentalist, Drums/Guitar/Bass/Keys/Vox), so I'm not really looking for any specific instrument, which means ALL of the following instruments below apply to this add..

REQUIREMENTS, INSTRUMENTS:

Keyboards. Not essential, since they can be sequenced with a machine, but if you think you can keep up, let me know. This would not be an easy position to fill for this group.

Drum player. Qualities: Just keep a beat, be it a steady 4/4 or faster skank. I don't care about fancy or drum fills. As a matter of fact, I don't even really want drum fills, so that's not even needed. Durability and basic 'jogging'-like endurance is mostly key here, so if you can simply hold a drum beat for 3-5 minute intervals (non-stop, without getting 'bored'), then that's you. This might also mean a bit of stamina is needed, so if you need to stop or tire easily every few minutes, forget it. You need to hold a beat and don't stop, that's all I ask. No fills, no fancy. Again, "hold a beat" to me means a steady beat for 3-5 minute intervals, eventually totaling 30 to 40 minutes. Put yourself on autopilot and go. Period. If you want to be Mr.fancy pants, don't bother. No smokers. Some of your equipment will be chosen for you, such as the snare drum, since this group's musical style requires a specific sound for things to 'work' properly. No drum set is really needed or can be provided.

Rhythm/Lead Guitar player. I only need one of these guys right now because I'll most likely be playing the other. Qualities: Must be able to play basic heavier or somewhat quicker rhythms (non-technical) and also somewhat fluent in a few general scales or chaining modes (e.g.; Angus -Blues, Yngwie -Scales, a bit of EVH tapping, etc). A little bit of basic everything really. You don't have to be a total guitar rock god or know theory, just be able to jam out heavier rhythmic sliding and know how to chain some scales/modes together for basic leads. If you play rhythm sloppy, forget it. Must play tight and precise. Your equipment setup will also be chosen for you. This group's musical style requires a specific sound for things to 'work' properly. No guitar, amp or effects are really needed.

Bass player. Qualities: Not looking for a 'Les Claypool', so fancy is not needed. A pick is fine, which means no string slapping or popping wanted or needed, but I do want to hear the strings working, yet with darker end sub frequencies, without the mud. No sludge or grungy distortion. If you use a decent parametric to dial into a lower subsonic - yet smooth low end, to blend with heavier guitar, that's great. Certain frequencies need to be dialed in for this group, so some of your gear may be chosen for you. Again, no fanciness or distortion wanted.

Vocals. Qualities: Clean with a bit of rasp. Think general Thrash Metal. Growls not wanted or necessary, but if you have a low yet clean voice, that's wonderful. I still have to hear what you're saying. No Pantera, Slipknot or 'whiny'. Original voices welcome, but no guarantees. Chances are, if your voice doesn't sound somewhat like mine on the recordings, things probably wont work. Keep that in mind. My voice leans a bit more towards a Thrash/Black Metal sound, but the music is not Black Metal. This doesn't mean I want anything to do with religious rhetoric either. To be perfectly honest, I could care less what your religion is. Keep it to yourself, I don't want to hear about it. Politics are okay, but your lyrics will still be chosen for you, regardless - so rambling on about either one is pointless. I am in fact looking for a bit more of a clean sound, but again, it has to lean slightly towards Thrash/Black Metal-ish. Basically, it's like general raspy Thrash Metal vocals. Your singing gear will also be chosen for you.

RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

No excuses or complaints. Must ALWAYS have time to show up at practice or a show. I don't want to hear excuses about job schedules, issues with your family life or any other personal problems. This group is a profession for me, so if there are ANY other issues OR you cannot afford the time and effort to put into it, then this group will not be for you. I would even go as far as saying you should already be financially stable even before auditioning. This is where it's going to take a minimum investment on your part. Time and effort. No excuses.

No pot smokers. I cannot and will not tolerate it, whatsoever. I find the very smell of it to be nauseating. I don't care what your excuse is for smoking it, if you smoke it - hit the door. Drinkers are fine, but *before* practice sessions is preferred. Three drinks maximum allowed during practice, any more than that - hit the door. During LIVE shows is not recommended and shouldn't continue more than a few days at a time. Use your head, obviously. Moderation and focus is key to this group. You can't be drunk because it would be impossible to play this stuff precisely. Too much precision is involved.

No brawlers. Snottiness is unwelcome in this group. I prefer 'nice', but not to the point of homoerotic either. You must be able to take sarcasm with a grain of salt. Being snotty is different. Put it this way.. if you take things too personal or you're a dickhead, forget it. I don't want you around. I can't stand overly personal people. This also means no debating or bickering. Bad attitudes, egos, arrogance or 'taking subtle jabs' at other members is not fun to deal with. Don't be nosy or question other members about personal things either. That type of behavior is just annoying.

Lastly.. 1. Gigadead is NOT a traditional "band". This means after the music is written, it does NOT change, EVER. This music is well produced by people with years of experience in the field, so don't ask to add anything to it or give your own musical input. If you do, I'll fire you in two seconds and not look back. 2. This is how it works.. You show up to practice or the show and get the job done, end of story. I especially don't want to hear about personal life. I find it to be particularly annoying. Please keep it to yourself, which means 3. Leave your personal life, significant others, friends and family at home. They wont be allowed in the practice area or studio under ANY circumstances. You can show off when you get on stage. 4. DURING PRACTICE SESSIONS: No cell phones, cameras, recording devices or ipod type devices in the studio area. Laptop and desktop computers are okay for running gear. No internet chat clients, email or messeging allowed. You can do that stuff after the session is over. Once you enter the studio, you stay until the practice session is over. Again, this means you don't use electronic devices for communication OR open the door for your friends and wander around like a kid at school recess. Further communication is not allowed once the session begins. Once you're in, devices are off and the door stays shut. When the session is over, go hard. I could care less after that. Urinate before entering. If you're drinking a beer, pee in a bucket.

I guess "no brawlers" leaves me out. Darn. :p

Thank you for your indulgence,

I like the alcohol policy:

"Drinkers are fine, but *before* practice sessions is preferred. "
Uh, OK - I'll be sure to spend a couple of hours in my local bar before practice.

"Three drinks maximum allowed during practice, any more than that - hit the door."
No problem. I just had 10 in the bar, 3 more during practice should be enough.

"During LIVE shows is not recommended and shouldn't continue more than a few days at a time."
No problem, I never binge more than a few days at a time anyway.

I agree with some of what he says about practice and no excuses and family issues. But it is easier to say if you are looking to make music your life and this has been your life time goal then..... When I had my original band in the 80's I surround myself with like minded musicians who carried no baggages and could pick-up and go at a moments notice and we did.

Some pot might help quell the nausea that he gets from smelling pot. I'd suggest edibles for him- perhaps at the beginning of one of his recording session lockdown events. Seems like a SUPER FUN BAND. Even though it has not happened yet, I'm just about positive that big-time success is right around the corner as soon as a suitable batch of robots are assembled to realize the vision he has laid out for us. GigaGrandad seems like a hip cat to jam with.
