Pet Peaves

I don't want to peeve on anyone's parade, but I dislike the oval bridge on the Lakland.
I will get flamed (exotic wood style) probably, but I also dislike furniture basses - probably because I don't want to spend a ******** of money on something that might get dinged.
I'm not a fan of 717 string basses (you know what I mean)
Just sayin

Will use this as a template - with some changes - since I agree with most of it...

  • Fanned frets
  • More than 5 strings
  • L.E.D. lights
  • Beautiful tonewoods
  • Headless basses
  • Short-scale basses
  • Carbon fiber basses
  • Clear pickguards

also, to add some:
- it is not really a "peeve", but I don't like all of the "burled" woods, or flame top or "fancy" wood finishes. Some are cool, but many times it is "over the top" to me
- I don't like the pretension that sometimes comes with amateur level players who play boutique basses
- over effected bass sounds/tones
- distorted or fuzzed bass tones for the most part. (In some genres it fits, but in many it gets in the way)
- "refrigerator" type cabinets...bigger does not necessarily mean "louder"
- I also agree with Rip Topaz about abused and especially unplayed instruments...

Might get flamed for this too, but:

Dislike the pretentious tone of comments from some TB'ers.
We don't all have endorsement deals or 400 years of experience.
The whole point of this site is to share and experience the bass guitar.
I don't care that your custom Jerzy Drozd is better than a Cort. Just share without prejudice.

Some things I could do without seeing in the bass world:

Traben basses..they're for MMA fighters that play bass.

Neck binding...feels tackey and a real pain to refret.

Over routing from Fender...can't they just do it like they did in the 50's and 60's?

Wood covered pickups..look great but too expensive to have strings grinding up against.

Obvious glue joints under the paint...I can understand this on an old bass with the wood shrinking and all, but it just looks bad and isn't that hard to avoid for the companies. It really says alot about their real values.

Relics...open the door for companies to actually use factory seconds.

I remember a CAR P Bass I used to have. Like every other P Bass I loved the sound but found the neck too wide. Actually it's as much the way the neck spread as it goes from the nut to the body.

And every time I see a Peacock blue Pedulla MVP I wish I was till working so I could buy it.

Drool. But like it's been said by someone much wiser than I : Listen with your ears, not your eyes.

I might even suggest applying that to girls. Many of us would be much happier.

I don't like candy apple red basses. But I have no problem with red guitars. It's weird.
