Pete Shand: The New Mastersounds

I was spending some time at iTunes looking for new music and came across The New Mastersounds.

Has anyone else heard of these guys? Pete Shand is the bassist. They're a funky/soul jazz group from the UK.

Good stuff. I just thought I'd share.

I stumbled onto these guys on myspace. I've been a fan for about two years and something of theirs is always either in my iPod or my CD wallet in the car. I'm glad to see someone else giving them some attention.

Yeah been a fan of these for a while. There's some good stuff coming out in this Funk-Revival vibe.
Similar to The New Mastersounds,
The Sugarman Three
Quantic Soul Orchestra
Poets of Rhythm.

I'm a big fan of The Breakestra too.

edit: A great compilation series for new funk is Soulshaker - Invalid Link Removed

I love this band! I can't for the life of me remember how I first heard about them a couple of years ago - maybe it was this thread!

Disco, I have that CD as well. After looking for but never finding any of their recorded material in any CD shop, I did a huge double take when I spotted 'An Introduction To' at the front of the 'Funk/Soul' section of a tiny CD/instrument shop in Katoomba! The guy selling it to me wasn't familiar with them but seemed a bit amused at my hyperventilating over it ;)

And yes, Pete Shand is The Bomb.

My band opened for these guys last night. Pete played my rig and it has NEVER sounded better. The booty shakin was on and didnt stop. . Pete is as solid a groove player as I've ever heard live or recorded. Great guy too. I highly recommend any of their material. SEE THEM LIVE.

Freaking love the New Mastersounds. Going to see them in November. Pete Shand is sick. Totally understated grooves with plenty of little tricks and fills here and there. You almost don't here all the awesomeness until you listen a few times. His lines always grow on me. The new album is sick too. Stoked for the show.

Just discovered this band, and it has completely reinvigorated my passion for music and the bass guitar!

I especially love the bass tone. PBass - cable - SVT - fridge. No unnecessary fluff. Just fingers and pure talent.
