Chumbawumba had one pretty big single in the UK, but they started off playing in squats in Bradford which is just down the road from me - and has nothing to do with Zippos - which has the highest herion addiction rate in Europe to give you some scope on how rough it is in some parts. So yeah they were pretty underground for a good while, still play alot of shows and seem to be quite happy with the comparatively small gigs they're doing, think they only did that major label thing for a bit of a laugh but alot of the Bradford anarchists haven't really forgiven them for it it seems still.

Anyway can we not just leave the Pete Wentz argument at this?

Swami, thank you for that information regarding chumbawumba. Here in the states they have faded into utter obscurity whence they came, so I find tis kind of thing interesting.

Yeah, the Pete Wentz thing has gotten a bit stale. IS Fender making a Wentz sig or not?That was supposed to be the original question.

Lars, you seem like such a great open minded defender of the arts in all of their various formsand glories. But if a guy sees a pile of dog crap on the street and it inspires him to make music, are you sure the end result is going to be a good thing, PERIOD? I doubt it. No there is such a thing as crap music, crap players and crap anything. I don't know this wentz guy, he looks like a douche, but who knows? I don't know if he is secretly a bass god. I do find that his music sucks and if it inspires more of that emo pop punk crowd to get into music I think thats a BAD thing. I like plenty of unsophisticated easy to play music. But crap is crap.

I stand by what I said 100%. And yes, to answer your interesting hypothetical. If someone sees a big, brown, twisty, steamy loaf on the street and is inspired to create music by it, that's GOOD. I may or may not enjoy the end result, but music is GOOD, and creating it is likewise. Whether or not anyone likes it doesn't negate that, it's inherent to the very process. As long as the one making music is happy, the quality is completely relative to its audience.

I had the unfourtunate experience of seeing Fallout boy live at Jones Beach a few years back.

My daughter is a fan and a great kid- Asked for tickets so I took her and her friend.

They must have been 6 or 7 bands on the Bill.

The Guys from blink 182 were there with there new band -Plus44 i think... Apparentley it was Pete wentz Birthday... if youve never been to Jones beach, Its an outdoor arena on the great south bay- the stage is literaaly 300 feet into the bay. anyway Mark Hoppus decide that in honor Of this guys Bday he was gonna start throwing his Basses into the Bay.

Then Fallout boy played and again threw there own stuff into the bay. Sad part is-Hitting the water was the best sound that Bass ever made-:rollno::rollno::rollno::D:D

They were awful... I mean awful.. The Drummer was okay and the Kid who sings was actually pretty talented But as a band-Just awful.

As much as some may hate Fall Out Boy or any other popular artist/band, if they're selling lots of records they must be doing something that someone out there likes. I know I would rather be rich and famous for playing music like Fall Out Boy than be a technically proficient yet broke bassist.

That's just me though.

Good points all. Lars, you are, of course, entitled to that opinion, and phrased like that I guess I agree, sort of. All those commas indicate some hesitation though. I am not in the catagory of people who feel that any music is good. Thats kind of the point though, some will like and some will hate. I am ok with that. I am a crappy bassist who has no famous band or record deals, but I like my opinions. I am good at those.

On a side note, it seems any Punk (spelled with a J in their case) band with a number in the title always seems to be pure smegma. Dunno why that is.

Apart from Paul Simonon I can't really think of any famous punk bass player that will have had their tone knob on anything but full... I'd be even more surprised if you could find a punk guitarist that has theirs on anything but full, come to think of it I've never seen a guitar used without the tone been on full apart from when it's getting used for weird effects and stuff.

Why y'all hatin'? I got a Pete Wentz sig I bought a year ago new, and I happen to like it. Mark Hoppus's bass only has a volume knob. I bought it cause it looks cool. Touch, feel, types of strings are sometmes moreimportant than weird sounds you can make with a tone knob. I just thought it looked good, and I wanted a P. Admittedly, I only like two of their songs, but I am not getting my panties in a wad over it. It happens tosound pretty good also! I got 6 basses and like this better than my MIM Jazz.
