Petersson's GIANT new cab...

I saw Cheap Trick perform "Sgt Pepper Live" this past September. I sat 3 rows from the stage, right in front of Mr. Petersson. He was phenomenal! And even did a great job vocally too. His tone & interpretation of the Beatles songs were spot-on & he played them effortlessly. That night played a Gibson Les Paul & Thunderbird on the Beatles songs & sounded great. A month later I saw Mr. Petersson walking thru the Nashville airport, blending in with general public, without the "rock-star look at me" attitude. Way to go Tom!

Just an FYI for all the dolts ragging on Cheap Trick's stage duds and style:
1. They've looked that way for 35 years. Longer than many of you have been around.

2. Those are the same instruments/gear they've been using for 35 years.

3. If there are any similarities to your latest 5 minute sensation, they are being influenced by Cheap Trick, not the other way around. They all admit as much in their interviews.

4. Cheap Trick was about as big as any band in the 70's and early 80's. They're still doing OK today. 98% of your 5 minute sensations of today will be dead or working for Wal-Mart in a few years.

Someone starts a thread about a bass cab and some of you have to make yourselves feel better by jumping on a band, that after 35 years can still "bring it" better than most of the autotuned upstarts of today, because neither you nor your "heros" will ever have a percentage of the career Cheap Trick has earned?!? Wow!

Agreed, much love for Cheap Trick here. My first concert ever: The Dream Police tour at age 16. Hard to do much better than that!

If I remember correctly, in the old Conan show they used a huge bass "dummy" cab to fill out the stage. The old one I remember was only 1 speaker and looked insanely huge. Maybe this is still it.

I think that one was smaller. I remember a TBer (masmasbasso, I believe) played Conan's old show and said there was a staffer with a camera hiding inside. Maybe he's got roomier accommodations on the new show.

It bothers me when these older bands try to keep with times and style. From left to right. Guitarist is sporting an explorer, college professor duds, and reading glasses. Singer went circa Village People or Blue Oyster Bar. Bassist has a country music style shirt and Switchfoot hair. The drummer looks, normal. Sometimes you CAN try too hard, even for Cheap Trick.

You must be trolling....or you spent the seventies listening to classical music, or your too young and you were just a dull gleam in some drunk mic's bloodshot eyes...

Tom Peterson is a great player who has influenced a lot of bassists. Some of their music sounds bubblegum to me, but they always executed it excellently. One of the great American Bands, IMO, up there with Aerosmith and ZZ top. Kinda underrated, too.

FYI, Rick has the FIRST Hamer "Standard" (Explorer) ever made, and was pictured in Hamer ads with it as far back as 1975. This particular Explorer has been around since 1979. He always plays it on the song "Dream Police", so why not this time as well?
Robin was wearing the hat because they were playing..."Dream Police".
Tom has had the same look since....1987? New bass though...and looks so awesome live.
