Petersson's GIANT new cab...

Back in about '84 Tom hit on my best friends little sister on a plane trip out of Atlanta...she claims they made out on the plane. She was 16 or 17 and I'm not sure of his marital status at the time

He flew her to a gig shortly after that but I never asked what happened on that trip :ninja:

1984 was during the period when Petersson had left the band, and around the time he released his solo album with his wife Dagmar. He rejoined CT in 1987, by which time he was single again, IIRC.

Hey JSK5String! I still have the TP-12 you sold me.

Well, not that this adds any value to the cab detection effort, but I had just got off an airplane after a business trip a few months ago, and I was tiredly walking while looking at the ground. I spot a pair of psychedelic Converse sneakers, look up, and it's Rick Neilsen, dressed pretty well the same as on stage. Gotta say, he looked kinda old (but he is 64....).

On the recent Austin City Limits broadcast, it looks like TP was going through a Hiwatt bass cab. On top of it was a Hiwatt combo amp. A little Googling came up with that he usually runs the bass through a guitar amp for distortion as well as the main bass rig.

So, the guess that it's a prop cab on Conan is most likely...

Tom uses Reeves amps these days, they look and sound like Hiwatts.

For me as a bass player, Tom Petersson is a huge influence. He plays what is right for each song, but he is certainly not a background player. He can be a busy player if he wants, but isn't. I respect that. Petersson taught me that you can play eighth notes and still be cool!

NICE!!! How do you like it? I loved the sound of that thing, but I just couldn't get used to the body style & size. I'm just a P/J player at heart. I ended up putting a Micro POG on my pedal board to get close enough to that sound for me.

Sorry... took a while to get back to this thread.

The TP-12 sounds cool... bigger and deeper than my Hamer Chaparral B12L. Jim Morgan sent a new set of saddles which took care of the bridge rattle. Also glued the nut in place (was loose) and filed the slots to bring the action down to a more reasonable level. Could still use a fret level. Definitely plays more easily than it did, though my Hamer is more easy to manage overall.

I am not stating they have to dress like a bunch of golfers at a clubhouse event.

You can still be hip and classy without being campy. They may have had that look for 35 years but you would laugh if you saw David Lee Roth walk out in Spandex and fringe at a gig now.

I guess campy was the description I looking for. That looks more like a tribute band trying to be 70's and 80's Cheap Trick rather than a progression of a real band. It is possible to become stale if you don't change.
You are in the extreme minority here (look back over the thread).

Cheap Trick has always been about great R'n'R, a good Show and a healthy dose of Humor.
You've missed 2 of the 3.

You want serious?
Creed is waiting.

this guy would 100% disagree with you, and really, if he ever changed, i'd demand a refund:

i don't see what's so undignified about CT's look now. they wear suits and t-shirts, not freakin' fringe spandex. i think you're just trying to be outrageous on the internet, and i don't even think you really believe what you're saying.

No JimmyM, I actually laughed when I watched the video. We cover some Cheap Trick tunes, they are a great band. I am not discounting that at all. But yes, I did laugh at the video. Why?

When I saw Tom I thought of this.

tom looks a million times less ridiculous than that. listen, i don't have much hair left anymore either, but i don't think that's a reason to get upset with tom petersson.

Cheap Trick looks fine. I really do not understand what the deal is here.

Looks like Cheap Trick to me.

BTW though I'm a Bass Player I think Rick Nielson is the coolest cat that ever was or will be.
