Petition for heavy gauge Chromes

I'm a TI flats guy, but I think a fat set of Chromes would be a great alternative to most other heavy-gauge flats (Rotosound, GHS, etc.)... Chromes are the only flats I'll play besides TIs.

(What I'd really like from D'addario are pre-made, balanced-tension string sets; and strings for Dingwalls)

Just an FYI - D'Addario is working on making ALL of the strings they make available as singles... Once they are, it will be easier to make a balanced tension set that will work with a Dingwall!

Hey Jason, ever hear back from them on that short and medium 40-95 set of Chromes or are they just going to do the singles thing instead? Personally I would be happy either way.

The ECB84 set of Chromes is quite balanced. It consists of the gauges 0.040, 0.060, 0.080 and 0.100. The tension lays around 42 pounds. A little heavier, say 0.050, 0.065, 0.085 and 0.110, would be balanced as well, but produces 50 pounds per string! I'd say that's a little too much...

Please consider 5-string sets too.
I love the feel of heavies. Packs or singles are fine.

For those requesting heavier gauges, what are you using them for?

I use the regular lights (ECB81 XL) and use them in Drop C no problem.

The feel and tone are very different. Personally, I find heavy flats have enough resistance that you can dig in a bit more and get a nice natural growl without too much clacking from bouncing the strings off the fretboard. They also have a massively fat tone when you feather them. Sorta like how playing on the "E" string sounds fatter and boomier than playing the same note on the "A" string. To each their own though. If everyone used the same set-up then the world of bass playing would be bland as hell.
