Phaser and Delay consultation

Hey TB, I opened a thread, Cause basically i need to consult with you and stuff

Anyhow
lets start

Phaser - Currently im looking towards the MXR Phaser 90/100 (What is the difference between them? And what is the vintage thingy and what's better for bass)
I have seen the EHX Pog as well, Any ideas on the phasers?

Delay - Im looking for a delay with about 800ms, Hold option if possible, Not tap tempo needed, And Wet and Dry options- I think i don't need them as well, But might be good.
I heard the DD-3 and didn't really like it...

get a used phase 90 or a small stone as your first phaser and proceed from there.

ask yourself if you really need a delay before you invest more than like 80 buck on one - i would check out the ehx memory boy and memory toy is you dig analog delay (though nobody has got their hands on one to try yet so take that for what it's worth)

+1 to what RCCollins said.

The Moog Phaser and Delay are my favs in the camps in which they reside.

If you want to get to know the effects and what they do, then the Phase 90/100 would be just fine. I want the Memory Toy bad. I think that it would be great for basement rehearsals and maybe even small gigs. I think that the Toy has less delay time than what you want.

THe difference between the Phase 90 and Phase 100 is essentially one knob. THe extra knob on the Phase 100 controls which of the four preset depths you want. If you are willing, then I would look at a Phase 90 and then get one of these: http://www.beavisaudio.com/products/
its called the Devolta. dont be fooled by the description. watch the vid on the site of what it does to a Phase 90. This would give you a sort of depth knob, but I would be careful with it.

EDIT: how much do you want to spend? If you have the dough, go with the Moog Delay. you can get some truly weird sounds with an expression pedal or two. I use an expression pedal on both Feedback and Delay Time, which makes for some pretty trippy moments.

Moog is way too expensive, And i'm willing to pay that crazy price for delay.
Idk, 150bucks maximum for a delay? 200 (That's the highest i'll go)
And i'm looking for a delay pedal that will sit on my board without any expression pedals (Though it can be nice)

Anyhow, I'll probably go for the Phase 100, 20 bucks for another switch, I think it's worth it.

Nope. The Phase 100 is a 10 stage phaser and subsequently has a VERY different tone than the Phase 90 - more lush, chimey and prominent (at least on guitar) phasing than the phase 90. But not everyone likes 10 stage phasing. It is less organic sounding and has a character all its own that is different from what most people think of when they think of traditional 4-stage phasers.

Side note, MXR's Phase 45 was also not a 4 stage phaser but a 2 stager.

As for the "vintage" thing, I'm assuming you're talking about one of the MXR variations on the Phase 90. They've made a few different versions (and there are countless boutique "script circuit" phasers - based on the Phase 90) but while they have differences, on bass they all sound pretty similar.

Personally I like the Small Stone more, but either it or the MXR are great phasers, especially for the money.

With delay you have a number of options. Probably not analog though since most won't do 800 ms (and the ones that do are pretty expensive). Two cheap options are the Guytone MD-3 and the Line6 Echo Park. The Guyatone is small and has crystal clear repeats with plenty of delay range available. The Echo Park is feature loaded and is still one of the most fun pedals you'll find for a little over $100.

If you want more expensive options I can give you those for phaser and delay as well. Good luck!

I'm reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllyyyyy happy with my homebrew psilocybe phaser. Two knobs, two switches and old school phasey goodness. I think new they are 160 US? I picked mine up in the classifieds for less. I'd say for delay a DD-3 is a good place to start. The guyatone MD-3 is also a kick a$$ little pedal too. Super small and lots of headroom/features.

What didn't you like about the DD-3? Most digital delays will sound pretty much like the Boss unless they are emulating an analog or tape delay. Jared is probably right that if you want 800ms and "hold" you'll be looking at digital delays. Do you really want hold or do you want loop? Boss delays are the only ones I've noticed hold on, but I could be ignorant here. Looping is much more common now and IMO much more useful/fun. I really enjoy my Hardwire DL-8. It does fake analog, tape, tap tempo, 8 sec delay, 20 sec loop, is true bypass and costs about $160 IIRC. I think it's warmer sounding than the DD-3 even in straight digital mode.
Oh, I also think the Small Stone sounds better than the Phase 90 ;)

I didn't want to recommend the Hardwire since I haven't tried it, but from all accounts and the video demos I've seen, it seems like it has most of the features of the Echo Park with somewhat better sound/fidelity. Looks like a great delay.

I tried the Echo Park one in a store and, while it's got the bang for the buck thing, it feels a bit flimsy construction-wise. I'm not too sure about it's fidelity, not stupendous IIRC. Also, some of the whistles and bells were somewhat underwhelming. The swell thing was not so great, it has a set time so you can only play so fast and no faster with it.

Well, I don't really need a hold option, And this pedal sounds good.
Any link or something?

And can someone please give me sound clips for Phaser 90 / Small Stone?
