Phasing or Flanging?

I am more of a flanger sort of player. My fave is the old Ibanez FL9 or the MXR but also have, a fondness for the Danelectro Psycho Flange. There are a few flanges I like on the old ART MultiFX LT especially one called white flange.
Live I do rely on the Zooms and they are okay.

Phasing... had a flanger once, but went to the phaser and never looked back. I've had a few and one stands out thus far, the psilocybe by Home Brew Electronics. It was a 4 stage I think. Sounded great with fuzzy muffs. The orbital is loved in these here parts, tried one, but it's interface didn't play well with me. I've moved on and have a Mr. Black GilaMondo coming next week... stay tuned.

Phasing for me ... EHX Small Stone nano is a good one on a budget, Empress Phaser at the other end of the price range.

I'll probably buy the new TC Electronic Helix phaser once it's available, with Toneprints and the Toneprint editor it should be hard to not find a sound you like.

I use some Phase - less and less admittedly in this current band but some...

I use a MXR Script Phase 90 and a MuTron Phasor II (original or clone)

I need to play around more with Flange and as of now I don't have one on my board. The Moog Mf-Flange is probably in my future though

I have a phase 90 and a bf-2 right now. Is there any way to set the controls on the bf-2 to get something like the phase 90? I like both and could see myself using both, but right now I really want to sell one and get a chorus. If I can get something like a phaser sound out of the flanger, then I would sell the phase 90, otherwise... I don't know.

Also, maybe I should consider trying out a phaser with more controls, the lack of control on the phase 90 I think is what's throwing me off of it.

Have you thought about something like the Source Audio Orbital? That way you can have phaser, flanger, and chorus in one box. Otherwise, it can be difficult to get phaser tones out of flangers, and vice versa, unless your tones are very subtle. However, you can get chorus tones out of flangers. Just turn down the resonance and manual controls on your BF-2 all the way and you now have a nice sounding chorus (IMO).

So maybe I should just keep the two pedals and not get a chorus?

Flanger. I use a delay set very short with the feedback pretty high to get a comb filter sound. Bending notes gets towards a moving flanger tone.

How you get to flanging vs phasing is usually pretty different, but they aren't that dissimilar: A phaser is usually a notch filter and a flanger is a comb filter (many notches), right?

Phaser for me, I was using a vintage ehx bad stone but now I can get that nano one and free up an acre or two on the board. Personally was never able to tame a flanger to do what I wanted but check out the EHX electric mistress family which have some cool bells and whistles without breaking the bank. YouTube is full of demos man get yo search on
