Phat Phuk B is back!

I’d like to have mine modded to add the bias knob but not sure if that’s an available service.

I've heard people claim that the Suppa Phat Phuk is essentially the same pedal (bias knob on top now) with an added phatness knob which is designed to add tonal flexibility. But I've also heard people claim there is something "magical" about the original pinky that the Suppa Phat Phuk can't compare to.

Yeah. I had a Suppa back in the day too. I really liked it but preferred the simplicity of the regular phat phuk.

Someone also mentioned to me that they felt having the bias knob externally actually effected the tone in a negative way. So now I have both I will be able to find out for sure

Report back with your findings. I'm curious about the external vs internal bias on the Phat Phuk B.

It's the same variable resistor, just in different formfactor, so it doesn't affect the sound in any way.
My my guess is that the magic is in the germanium transistor. They are quite inconsistent by nature, so maybe he had a more pleasant sounding batch during the era of internal bias vs external one.

Well it's been a few years since I had one (and only got to plug one of mine in briefly before I went on holiday).

It's a cool boost. It's got some grit and tonal magic to it, which is what makes it special to me....but you could argue "wouldn't a relatively transparent of do the same thing? Hell, doesn't the TC Spark Booster do that?"

I'm looking forward to playing around with them in more depth. It does so something that's quite pleasing to the midrange of my Gibson bass and when I put a video together I'll show you what I mean if I can.
