Philosophical question about birth year basses

I guarantee you could buy a bass that was made in your birth year for under $200 if all you cared about was the year of manufacture.

Condition, name brands, etc would have to be sacrificed, but you could get it done by the end of the week if you wanted to.

here's my b.y.b.! an 'alamo titan', made in san antonio in 1963!

If your financial situation is such that you can afford it, and I mean truly afford it, then why the hell not? I'd do it even just for the novelty of it. FWIW I was born in '65. So set me up with a '65 Jazz, custom color w/ matching headstock, dots, binding, and paddle tuners.

While we are at it, I'd take a '65 Vette or a '65 Camaro, just because. If you have the means, go for it. My uncle spent an absurd amount of money on a custom bicycle when he turned 70, because......he could.

I see no reason not to do it.

Your bass could be had for, I dunno, $11-12K? The Vette or the Camaro would be more, methinks.

I played a 71 jazz a while back which is my birth year. Unfortunately it had the neck hump some of them suffer with. I guess I have some issues too. I thought it would be cool, but I also wanted something a bit more playable so I passes. Beautiful sunburst with a maple neck with black inlays...

Oh, man...... I'm Pre-CBS (1958) and my wife is......wait.....Is she Pre or Post CBS????? 1965 is one of those questionable years. Yeah, I started looking for a real '58 last year, when I was 58.........Didn't take too long before I knew it was useless. If I wanted an AVRI, I'd make it myself and save a few bucks, lol. Still..... I hope one day I'll stumble across one that uncle Henry put in a garage sale....... to dream....................
