no doubt!

She is a very talented Belly Dancer too ... of Euro-Egyptian descent she has a very exotic look.

:) ... She is a nice kid too ... on to more BASS pics!

And for Cheese, I'll second the comments regarding lighting/framing-make sure to take the pictures inside in natural light, or on an overcast day. And make sure not to cut off various parts of the bass-frame the shot so that you can see the whole bass, or so that you can focus on a particular part of the guitar.

You just have to keep trying-taking good photos, like playing bass well, takes practice. For each of the photos above, I probably took 6 or 7 shots that I threw out after the fact, for various reasons.

Hey Everybody!

I saw this post earlier today, and thought I'd take a couple of shots while taking a study break. All shots were taken with a Nikon D80 Camera, with a Tamron 28-200 f3.5/5.6 (I think the aperature is correct!)

I did not use a tripod (although I should have). Also, I have trouble exposing for something like cocobolo & maple. Either one or the other looks good.

This one is too dark, but I really like it.

This one looks over-exposed to me (with respect to the Maple):

And an overall body shot:

Please feel free to comment - positive or negative - I want to learn!!

Thanks for the thread - this is great!

I didn't mention it but I too use Nikon ... a D-70 and the 18-35wide, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm and the 70 to 300 zoom all Nikon, plus the incredible Tamron 90mm f2.8 1to1 Macro.

A Bogan 3221 tripod and Bogan Manfrotto quick disconnect swivel head.

Again you don't need all of that, any good camera and the right light will do. Anyone can do this, there have been some great shots posted. The one at the tree base looks great!

The studio setup I use for the web listings

;) ... My real love is still film cameras ... my Leica M3 and Canon model P rangefinders.

As far as shooting instruments outside in direct sunlight, i've never had a problem:

All pictures taken with a Sony Cybershot, nothing spectacular.

Sunlight through a window is kind of fun, though:

(i know it's not a bass, but it's instrument photography we're talking about, right?)

I've taken some good pics in direct sunlight but I try to avoid doing it. For me, it's a crap shoot that I usually loose.

I stuck the Kubicki in the shade for this one :D

Another long exposure, lightbox style pic. I should have put more light on the body above the strings. It would have been easy enough to do. I usually notice things like this after I post the pics  Another cool thing about long exposures is you can move the lighting around while the shutter is open, illuminating the entire subject. This also eliminates shadows.

A gratuitus knife pic. The lightbox allows me to have total control of difused lighting. You can get similar control and results using photographic defusers and and lighting. A cheaper way out is buying flourescent lighting difuser and work lights at Home Depot :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try building a lightbox. A few more gratuitous knife pics with natural lighting:

I normally use an old Nikon F3 SLR, but for web shots I have a Canon Powershot A540 that works pretty well. All these pics were taken with the latter.

Thanks for the compliment about my shot near the tree. I have a bunch of GREAT photos that are currently lingering in 35mm negatives & slides - as soon as I scan them in, they will be up here. Sorry I cant put them up now!

Thanks also for the tips - as my study time allows, I'm working on better shots!
