Picco Micro Scale Bass Thread

OK, I reweighed it by itself on the the bathroom scale 5.5 lbs. Previously I weighed myself and then myself with the bass and came up with 5 lbs. That sure beats my SR500, Dean Edge fretless, Fender Squire Jazz all of which are 9 lbs. each

I have done measurements, and I'm am attempting to proceed with an experiment using string ferrules near the bottom of the body - if the factory can support the effort at the right cost.

Turns out between the bottom length of the body and the width of the body, there may indeed be enough length to transform this to use any 30 inch scale bass string.
If it works, the string door blows wide open, including the tapewound string door.

To be continued.

Macmanlou, what automobile is that in your signature? Is it a Morgan?

It's a hot rod '29 Ford Model A Roadster, a track roadster for racing on dry lakes and, when fitted with a windshield and lights, driven on the street. It was built by Bill Niekamp in the late '40s and has won several awards over the years:

I have no particular connection to the car, except that I'd build one like it if I had a garage.

I am sorry I have to post this but, on Friday I was in a restaurant eating, when someone came into the restaurant and announced:
"Who owns a Brown Ford Windstar?" I said Tan? He said yes. I got up and went over to him and he explained. "Your car was just hit by someone in a White Jeep Cherokee and he took off but I got the license number." I went out to look while calling the police. What a mess, I can only hope his car is a mess also. Contacted my insurance company and gave them all the pertinent information and am now waiting to see what happens. So I have had to back out of purchasing anything until this is cleared up. Bummer I was so looking forward to this tool. Maybe later depending how things go.
Ugh. I can't stand anyone who'd hit and run. Two-legged turds, they are. I was driving behind a car late one New Year's Eve that took out a parked cars rear view mirror and the guy just took off. I was glad to have gotten his plate number and notify the fuzz.

Hi Frank, is there any news on the string thru project?

If it happens, it will be down the road. The current PiccoBass will be The PiccoBass for some time to come.
The factory is generally on board, but it will be sometime down the road before we draw any conclusions
or offer an actual additional model.

The more I play today's PiccoBass and super custom strings, the more I conclude that we are already there.
When the current strings break in a little, you can really dial in Any tone.

I truly love this bass.

Black satin PiccoBass was purchased, and a batch of others shipped out today.

I would love to have a 25.5" scale Picco Microbass but only if I could get flat or flat tape wounds for it. I consider a 2 to 3 month waiting period to be unacceptable for me. That is why I asked about the string thru but if it isn't meant to be, oh well.

Not a 3 month wait, but yes, about a 6 week to 2 month wait. Definitely not for everyone, and
not for anyone needing instant turn around. It's a small labor of love, and for the foreseeable future,
there won't be capital to stock a significant quantity in advance.
We're basically doing this like a custom builder - pay 50% up front, pay the remainder when the build is done.

No, no, no I meant a 2 to 3 month waiting period for the strings. Believe me I know it takes time to get a bass built and shipped from off shore. I have no problem with the payment and shipping terms. I just do not want a bass with round wound strings that I will not play because I abhor round wound strings much the same way some people feel about the Pahoehoe strings. If I could get string thru so I could use 30" scale LaBella's my check to you would be in the mail tomorrow.

A set of Fender through-body string ferrules is about $10. Considering that La Bella 30's are 32" from ball to silk, my best guess is that the body would be drilled approximately 1" up from its bottom edge, which looks doable. If we give up on the string manufacturers, the modification seems simple enough.

I'm thinking that using the BEAD strings from a 30" scale 5-string set might work best. Thoughts?
