ps- opinions on my band?

I listened to the one mp3 there, and it sounds kind of "Metal Light", actually. The sounds are good, the singer has a pleasant voice, production is pretty tight. Good playing! But I wasn't, in that 1 minute, particularly moved... I mean the intro was suggestive, but then the sun came out, I called my girlfriend, and I went off to work... know what I mean?

Good luck with the bass- and keep playing man. You've got goods there.

The metal sound comes from our guitar player, he was in a pretty heavy band before this.
The singer has been in a few bands, worked at guitar center, and the production was all on him. He has an awesome studio in his basement and is going to school for sound engineering. The track is still unfinished, that's just where we are at.

Thanks for input though, appreciated.

I made the trip to motor city guitar to test drive a few active basses. They had the pj but not the jazz. Dang. I played just about everything I could grab and I did managed to find the one. I mean "the one". Its and american deluxe pj. Oh man, it felt perfect. After playing a bunch with the same result, once I played that I knew that was what I wanted. To be fair I did AB the mexican deluxe to the american, and they both have the oomph I want, however the overall package goes to the american deluxe. So at this point my decision is made and I am saving money this. GAS will have to be put on hold because I am so serious about buying this bass.

I guess I can bump my old thread now...

that active P/J is an amazing bass. my friend has one that i've played and it's great, especially considering how affordable it is. i would see myself mainly using the P pickup alone, but throwing in the J every now and then. i'm not a person who cares about getting "that classic P bass tone"; i could care less as long as the sound i'm getting is good on its own terms. so from that perspective, the active EQ is definitely worthwhile.

And the saving begins. Just sold my bass in the classifieds and after my bills are paid I'm putting some away to get one of these. Ill probably end up financing with zzounds.

The tone options on this thing are crazy. Especially with the active passive switch. I played a few different style and i was able to adjust to each on he fly. Its awesome. This is what I call a life bass. I should be set for a long time after I get it. Then once I get my aguilar tone hammer 500 and aguilar 410, ill be set.

you already have two passive basses. why don't you just buy an outboard preamp?
for example, Yamaha NE-1 is nice and cheap (discontinued though! eBay...)

or are you just looking for an excuse to buy a new bass? :D

I voted for the jazz - I don't get active P's or PJ's, but then again - I don't get active basses! maybe if it was a filter-based preamp...

I wasn't completely set on getting a fender. That's just how it played out.
While I'm saving for a this new bass I am fixing up my jazz right now to hold off buying something.
Its been needing a refinish and some new parts, because since its been in pieces I've sold most what was on it.

Debating on doing a preamp or a varitone control. Leaning towards the varitone but idk.

I would go with the P/J because like others have said it is more versatile. I like Precision basses over Jazz's anyways, however you can get the sound of a P with the added J pickup for the Jazz growl. Get's the best of both worlds.
