Pick players!!!

i use all kinds of picks for different things, but my main one is a dunlop tortex .88 (green one). i grip it between index and thumb. i use it when the song calls for it. i mostly use fingers, though.

+1. When I use lighter than .88 I can pick fast and have great attack, but my tone is thin. When I go heavier than .88 I get the full tone, but my dexterity is reduced and I can't get enough thwack on the attack. .88 balances it out. I pick behind the neck pup generally. I can always tell a guitar player (especially acoustic) who has picked up the bass because they pick on the fingerboard and fan out their other fingers.

I used to play more pick (ex-guitarist). When I play pick I'll alternate if I'm skipping strings, but if I'm running 8ths I'll do the repeated downstroke thing. And sometimes I do a Lemmy/Lou Barlow strum thing, though not much anymore.

Now I play more fingers. Sometimes I'll play my pick songs with fingers, or my finger songs with a pick, switching back and forth until I decide which one to use. Sometimes I'll do it in the middle of playing a song

I'm a 100% pick player these days. I hold it between the outer knuckles of the thumb and index, and I'm also hybrid picking these days, using the pick and remaining fingers at the same time, much like Carles Benavent or Colin Hodgkinson. I really haven't found anything I can't play with a pick yet, but if I do, I guess I'll use something like my fingers then.

It really depends on the song as to what technique is used . . . The song DOES talk to me and I listen to what it says it needs . . .

either 1.14 or 1.0
or the .6 if I feel i need to bust out some chords.

I go through phases where I like picks and phases where I don't. Right now I'm partial. I use 3.0 mm Dunlop jazz stubbies.

I use a pick probably 90-95% of the time.

Here is my selection of picks I use. The Gorilla Snot is a life saver on a hot night on a hot stage.

i go about 50/50, depends on what sound i need

if its a hars/ poppy sound then i will use a pick (Dunlop Classic Celluloid, Heavy), held using my index, middle fingers and thumb.

but if it needs to be a little softer or smoother i will go fingers

About 70/30 fingers/pick here. You can't beat the pick tone for some things. I like the green Dava Control picks - they're about 1mm, but they're flexible in the middle. Gives me the control of a thinner pick, but the tone of a thicker one.
