An old neighbor of mine had a 71 Hemi Cuda convertible..... one of seven built in 1971, his was one of five that was equipped with an automatic transmission.

I used to see him on the cruise nights at the local burger joint with that car...... being a high six figure valued car I was surprised and asked him one night if he felt funny banging pot holes with such a rare and iconic ride....... His response was "Mike, Chrysler built this car to be driven and not to sit in someone's garage or be hauled around on a trailer."

I was in a band in the late '70s that one of the front singers had a white X1/9. She always let me take out for a spin. Even though it didn't have much HP, it was still a lot of fun to drive as it did handle quite well.

Back in those days, marketing and styling came first. It was only after Volvo first started demonstrating "Safety first engineering" did the industry change. And then only after other automakers watched Volvo sales increase considerably.

I've got a nice pair of tail lights for that car and how I got them I'll never know...... I'm a GM guy but somehow I wound up with some Mopar parts.
