(Studebaker Manta...)

I almost bought one recently with an aftermarket turbo. Had some surface rust and a mangled tailgate. Would've been sight unseen though and taken up way too much space in manicured suburbia.

What engine did they hang a hairdryer on?? Hopefully if they wanted to go fast it was a GM LS engine. :D

The mangled tailgate and surface rust only add to the sleeper effect..... remember, going fast looks good.

These are getting rarer but I still seem some around:

I worked at a Ford dealership in '96 when they were just introducing the wholly new redesigned F-150. That was the last year they made the boxy style body and the pushrod 4.9L engine that was so popular for two decades.

The new F-150 had a rounded body style, the new 4.6L modular V8 and completely different structure and suspension.

We had an enormous number of orders for new F-150s, but the majority were for the last year of the outgoing model, because people realized that was their last chance to buy a new truck from that era.

Ford didn't anticipate that and we ended up with a huge surplus of brand new round body F-150s on the lot and we had to heavily discount them to get rid of them.
