It's the ultimate cynical, Big 3, lipstick-on-a-pig marketing ploy. An also-ran in that department:

It wanted to be a Camaro so bad when it grew up.
It's been a long time since I saw a Mini Clubman.
There was a turquoise estate in our neighbourhood that I really liked as a youngster.
I thought those new fronts appeared a bit Italian.
Which reminds me of the Innocenti mini De Tomaso Abarth that a friend of my brother had.
It had mini Cooper engine tuned by Abarth, crazy fast for such a small car.
Innocenti is also known for producing the Lambretta scooters.
A bit similar was the Rover 114 GTi, my sister had one.
I drove it around a 114 mph a couple of times, quite a speed for a mini based car.

Another attempt at an auto company trying to decorate a piece of junk car. The Chevrolet Vega GT. My friend and guitar player in the early 70s had one. It was an awful car.
The first brand new car I bought was a 1974 Ford Mustang II hatchback right after I graduated from high school. I would cram a double stack Music Man or an Acoustic 301/370 bass rig in the back and I had to push the driver's seat up. I still don't know how I drove a stick shift like that with 6 inch platform shoes on.

FTR, I meant the Mavericks were like mini-Mustangs in appearance only. I know very little about under-the-hood stuff.Um, sure.
