I have heard that too, but I am almost sure it's an exaggerated statement from people that never really understood how carbs work. For sure it's not for everybody but if you own a car with Webers mounted on the motor, you either know few things about them or you have enough money to leave an expert do it for you. I am not an expert in Webers but I am in Keihin FCRs that have similar or even worse reputation. However dual quads is not a bad idea either, probably the biggest limitation would be the space under the bonnet for this type of car.

Actually, I was just riffing on the usual TB thing. I've never run Webers, although I say from experience that sidedraft SUs can make you crazy tuning. However, people of my generation who wanted dual quads on that would just cut a hole in the hood and let them stick up....maybe add a big chrome scoop.

Still made and sold around the world today, the 1980's Toyota vans stopped being sold in the USA in 1989 due to muh safety concerns.
My vans were both 4WD, and they all had 4cycle engines that were the same engine used in Toyota forklifts. Contrary to popular opinion, the under-seat engine was easy to do most work on. To this day they are a legendarily "bomb-proof" engine.
It was also the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven for long trips. The 4WDs topped out around 25mpg, and the 2WD vans could get 30+ and could be found with double sunroofs, dual-zone A/C, and could fit a full sheet of plywood.

Don't know if you saw my previous post, but I drove one for several years (2WD). It had over 300K miles on it when I sold it, and it was still running like a champ.

The first time I saw a Tatra like the one above was in East-Berlin.
It definitely appeared impressive among the Trabants, Wartburgs and Lada's.


Part of a 60ties promotional film edited to contampary music.
The policeman rides a Jawa 500 OHC typ 15, also a rare sight.

I like the camera work. The steering wheel looks like it returns itself to the 12 o'clock position. I've driven an old VW Rabbit like that. That takes some muscle.
