Here's my three:
1. Exotic Singlecut with switchable double coils. Stammie/Benavente/Elrick/Nordie or equivalent.
2. PJ5 -- Mike Lull or Sadowsky
3. Eminence EUB.
That would cover everything I could ever imagine doing.

Custom Spector 5-string (USA bolt-on, Swamp Ash/Figured Maple, EMG 40JCS (neck) and 40TWCS (bridge), Piezo Bridge pickups, EMG BQC System w/ concentric pot for individual volume controls and additional piezo controls, black hardware, "Black and Teal" finish - basically a combination of the construction and pups/electronics of the USA Bolt-on and the piezo, wood, and finish options of the USA neck-through line)
....a close call for the third would be natural-finsh ash body Bongo 5 H/SC, a Rob Allen Deep 5 with slimmed-down neck profile (from what I've heard, they're pretty beefy), a early-'90s Tobias Killer B in Swamp Ash (seeing a pattern here?
) and a Fender Tony Franklin Signature Fretless with inlayed lines.

Ideally, for me:
Sandberg cutom Jazz 5.
Roscoe SKB3006 fretless.
BeeBasses Worker Bee 7 or 8 (but if Bud LeCompte's 8 turns out pretty, I'd have to choose that!).

Yup! I'd probably go with a Sadowsky J...I'm not sure about the P though.
--> Conklin Ziricote 9 string for daily work (rock and cover band gigs)
--> Ritter Roya 5 string as a backup or beater bass (biker bars and stuff)
--> Zon Hyperbass for the usual fretless ballad stuff
And of course, an off the shelf precision for studio sessions only. The other three wouldn't match the tone!

I consider myself lucky (after years of experimenting) to now own my ideal 3-bass arsenal (my main 3 out of the 8 I own).
In the order of which gets the most use:
1. Lakland US Glaub (w/Labella flats and Duncan Custom Shop pickups)
2. Jerry Jones Longhorn (w/Chromes)
3. Sadowsky Vintage Jazz (with VTC, Nickel Lo-Riders)
With these three I am totally covered. I could sell off the rest, and the idea of cleaning house is actually kind of appealing. . . .

My 3 Bass Arsenal is pretty ideal in my mind. I have one P, one J, and one P/J with active pre amp.
