Picking a band name sucks

I like Junk Drawer.

It does. I'm putting a new cover band together, we have contacts we can get gigs from but I'd like to be able to at least tell them the name of the band we're asking them to book. We've been practicing together about six weeks now, starting putting nominations out there from day one. Here's the list of name ideas that came out:

Lots of good choices in your list. I think I'd call mine Lesbian Air Force if I were starting a band today.

I always wanted to name a band Whatziz Name and The Bald-Headed Fat-Asses...


Even Though I'm neither. It just sounds good for an over-50 bunch...

Just pick one and be done with it. If you're a cover band and aspire to play better gigs(corporate, etc) keep it clean and marketable.

We played our drummer's accounting firm Christmas party as (His Name) and the Loopholes.

For a lesbian band I like U-Rok Omama and the Bushwackers.

"The Bushwackers" must be taken. If not, it's a crying shame.

"The Closely-Trimmed Wackers" would be my preference, however.

All band names are not equally stupid.

"the Beatles"... pretty dumb.

"the Rolling Stones"... cooler and cleverer.

Of course both of them had the advantage of referring to some previous name everyone already knew.

Just remember, whatever you come up with, nothing will ever beat "Free Beer and Chicken" for packing the joint.

Yeah, finding the right name is a huge hassle. My last band already had the name “The Honey Badgers” when I joined, but they hadn’t gigged under that name yet. We played two out of the area shows with that name, got good reaction (from the name and the music), and then went to book shows locally, only to get some cryptic messages from club owners that they weren’t interested in booking us “again”. I asked the singer if they had done some web searches on the band name to see if it was taken, and they had not, so I did some searching and found that there was a local band with that exact name that apparently sucked so bad that they were not asked to come back and play several local venues. ARGH!

It took about a month to settle on a new name that most in the band could deal with and then we were able to get booked at those venues. Such a pain in the a$$
