Picking a band name sucks

I have always hated picking a band name. Last band I was in had no name, but shortly after I joined they came up with Convicore. I liked it and went along with it (A variation of it is Latin for "Dinner guest"). A few months later at rehearsal I asked how they came up with the name. Band leader says he had come up with Inocent Conviction and the rest of the band wanted CORE. They merged the two. Thank god.

Another group I was part of went through so many band names over its 5 year stint, but for 2 solid years was called Rejected Material. The three years before that we bounced names every show. We would write them on the wall and throw darts at the names before booking/playing a show. That was who we were that night. Once we were The Woodhouse Experience, another time it was WAHBL and the Roaches.

.. 'Mug Shot' or any of the multiple plays on it 'The Mug Shot Band', 'Mug Shot Monday', etc would lend very well to marketing and PR material and oportunities to play of the name in pics and promo material ... there could be a very defined theme there, all the way from maybe prison suit type garb, to B & W mug shot type pics (holding #'s, stern faces) on the posters ... original tunes like 'Jail Break', 'Ball & Chain', etc ...

... names can be effective if very genre specific to help identify as well ... Rolling Stones would not be as well suited for a country or funk group, as a rock group ... Gravel Roads fits a country or blue grass type group better than a rock/heavy metal group for instance ...

Leonard Skinner? LOL

Actually it's Krobopel. Pronounced like Ms. Krabappel from The Simpsons. I think I am spelling it right this time lol.

I actually had business cards printed up so we could all remember how to spell our own name. We are idiots.

My guitarist is a really weird dude. It's his band and he suggested the name, which we all finally agreed on. But he also suggested "We Are the Speedboats". Not "The Speedboats". So when people would ask us our name we could turn it into a sort of Abbot and Costello skit like "Who's on first".

Stupid, completely nonfunctional, but in a way I like the idea. A rock band should never take itself too seriously.
