Picks

Dunlop Nylon .60mm for me.

And I love playing with a pick. I have two issues though....

1) On those few songs where it just 'feels' better to use my fingers, I have to change my settings...and I hate doing that. I've got a pedal that I use to boost the level and that seems to work.

2) People tell me I shouldn't use a pick.

There are a few songs I still have to play with my fingers as I'm not great at muting while using a pick yet so I'm in the same boat.

Anyone who says using a pick on bass is wrong doesn't know what they are talking about. It's that old TB thing of thinking your opinion should be a fact for everyone else.

Do whatever makes you happy right? :)

I use custom imprinted Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm picks. I play fast as hell Speed Metal, hehehe... ;)

I am a fan of the Dunlop Standard Nylon .88, and 1.0MM depending on the style and bass I am playing. I like the feel and thumpy tone I get out of them.

But obviously it is all about personal preference.

I use Dava picks. Hard to find, but they have a good grip, and a graduated flex, depending on how you hold them. They're all I use, and I use a pick 90% of the time, due to RA in my right hand. I can use my fingers for slow songs, but anything fast and rockin' requires a pick, for me.

The double-picking question, if I understand correctly would be alternating down and up strokes. I do that a lot, but you have to spend some time working to get both strokes to sound the same.

I play a Toby Deluxe, through a Line 6 LD300 for most gigs, have a Markbass LM 800 Tube that will someday soon be powering a fEarful 15/6.

Only pick ill ever use. Pretty sure this in the wrong section by the way. And i'm sure there's another thread just like it.

This is the pick I would recommend - the Dunlop Big Stubby. I like the 2mm size. It's the least clacky pick I've tried yet, and the indentation gives me a good, nonslip grip. I just about can't hear it hitting the strings, but I can sure feel it! Picks are cheap enough, so give it a try! ;)
