I recently bought a brand new (unusual for me) Sandberg Nighthawk 4 string, with a P pup and MM type at the bridge. I LOVED the sound straight out of the box but the action and neck relief was to high for my taste. I like my necks almost flat and the action height very low so set about getting the right neck feel but didn't change the pick-up height. It took me a while to work out why as the neck playability got better the sound got worse, in fact it took me over a month. I've now dropped the pick-ups about 2 - 3 mm and it sounds great again. I'm 63, but never too old to learn..!
