Pickup Routing Question

Hey guys. I have a Fender American Standard Jazz bass and want to put a pair of Nordstrand Dual Coils. I know they won't fit into the single coil slots. How much would it cost to have the bass routed for the nordstrands? Would I also need a preamp then? (My fender is passive). Would it be better to just get single coil shaped humbuckers? Any recommendations? Thanks!

you should look at spending around $80-100 for routing both pups + install. Those DC work wonderfully passive, especially if they are series wound.
The NJ5Fs are also a good punchy pup…. really it's up to you. What it is that you are looking to change from the present sound…..

I was talking to my bass teacher and decided routing the bass isn't a good idea. But what I decided to do is just get a preamp pedal. I've seen the Aguilar tonehammer and that looks nice and I know sadowsky makes one but I haven't tried either. Anyone have any experience with either? Or recommend any others?
