pickup upgrade

Hi
i have a 1983 fender precision elite and was thinking about changing the pickups. Is this a good idea and if so what would be the best ones to go for?

Depends on what sound you're going for... Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders seem to be popular and have a fairly high output. Fairly aggressive sounding. I stuck one in my '96 MIA P when the stock pickup gave up the ghost, (corrosion due to a spilled beverage)... Gets the job done, although, with that bass, I am soon going more traditional with Lindy Fralin... Just received it and am itching to do the swap!

If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you get there?

I would suggest sticking with the original pickups, unless you plan on keeping this bass forever. Nothing kills resale value like un-original pickups, especially those as distinguishable as the elites.

If you plan on hanging onto this bass it really depends on what sound you want out of it, or how much versatility.
