Pickups with separate height adjusting for each string

Hello everyone,

has anyone had experience with this type of pickups? How big of a difference do they make when it comes to string to string volume balance?

I also wanted to know if there's another manufacturer that makes pickups with separate height adjusting for each string besides G&L.

DiMarzio makes them.

I play a set of DiMarzio Model J's in one of my basses. To me, they make all the difference, especially since the neck on this particular bass has a little more crown radius than some of my other basses, including my 5-string. I can fine tune the string balance exactly so I can play a set of balanced tension strings, and not have to rely on a tight D string to get the same output per string as a "traditional" set of bass strings.

That's a good question. I tried tinkering with the string height and also different type of strings. I own a TRBX 604 with somewhat boomy E string.
I'm also using EQ and a compressor.

Adjustable poles on pickups really do work. I have DiMarzio model P installed on a PBass that had string balance issues. Cleared them up perfectly.

Does DiMarzio make those as humbucking soapbars? I can't seem to find them on their website.

I have the DiMarzio DP123's in my fretless and, while I didn't need to mess with the height of the individual poles too much (a tad bit higher on the E, a tad bit lower on the G), I did make some extreme tests with the poles to see how much of a difference it does.

I lowered all pole pieces as far as they go (~0.5mm) and the overall output of the bass dropped quite a lot, so I guess if string-to-string balance is needed, adjustable pickups will be a good choice to fix any issues.

Other than that, keep in mind that the DP123's are tall pickups, possibly taller than what you already have installed in your bass, so you may need to route the pickup cavity deeper or choose another brand.
