It's been a while...I don't have anything to show at the moment. I've gotten everything out the door that I had going on this summer. I've picked up a few new jobs, but don't have much to show so far. Other than that we're making a few changes for 2008 including a new headstock design. I've also got a couple of new models I'm excited about. You'll have to keep an eye on the website.

It's unlikely that I'll be able to post anything new for a while do to the new CUP and the monthly charge for the Builders Showcase. I simply don't have the time to document and post every step of a building process and the Builders Showcase subscription is out of my price range. This thread will likely be locked or deleted. Oh well...it was fun while it lasted...

:(

Oh well...you can still post your motorcycles in the "off topic" forum...;)

Otherwise, we can get the LeCompte owners to continue with the "show your lecompte" thread in the bass forum...

(we have WAYS of seeing your basses)

I guess I'll post these while I can. I've had the bass for about a month and I have trouble putting it down. :hyper:

Bud's the man!!!

Always checking this thread too see some exciting stuff. We'll try to keep it open until your triumphant return Bud. Whatever happened to that flying V with the cool pickup cover you designed?

I've only recently gotten back on that bass. I should have something substantial to show in a couple of weeks, but you'll have to check my blog...I guess. It will be offered as a new model in 2008 and available in four and five string versions, known as the 'UV' or "Ultimate V". :hyper::D

Hey, Bud...I have a question....

those two 5 strings that you made for the gentleman in California, they were exactly the same electronically and had very similar necks...the only difference, AFAIK, was the body design.
Anyway, I'm curious, how close were the sounds of those two basses? Could you perceive a difference with your ears? If they were different in what way?

That was an interesting study. The only major differences in those two basses was the ST model had a maple top and a walnut accent. It also had wenge stringers in the neck and a maple headstock lam. The other bass had an all ash body, bubinga neck stringers, an ash headstock lam and a different body shape. I can't remember if I used ash from the same board for both bodies. I think they were from different boards, but similar in weight. The fingerboards were bookmatches of each other from the same board. Pretty neat when both bass are standing side by side. The ST with the maple top sounded more defined. It was a little brighter than the other one. I don't know if I can attribute that to the maple top/walnut accent. I felt that it would have made a great studio bass where as the other all ash bass would be great as a gigging bass. The ash bass sounded bigger. Both had the exact same preamp, pickup and hardware configuration. Same scale, same neck profile and dimensions. After all that they both ended up being unique in their own right. It supports my opinion that you just don't know how a bass is going to sound until you put it all together. The customer seems to be enjoying them both and threatens to order another once his Walter Woods is paid off. :D

interesting...

folks have claimed that the maple tops were added to les paul tops to give the guitars a little bit of "definition" over the solid mahogany guitars (plus, they just look better ;) )...

perhaps there's really something to that.

looks-wise, I love both of those basses...(along with a lot more of your basses, bud)...

as I always say..."some day, I will own a lecompte.
