Pimp my P-bass

Wait 25 years. 
Anyway, looks are just looks and don't really do anything for me. I think the sound is more important. I put a set of Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups in a new P bass and I was surprised how old it suddenly sounded.

well rumblin man... rock is 50% music 50% image today
which is what is wrong with music today.
please, please play 100% for the music.
I think most music (certainly jazz, blues, classical, etc.) is partially about image as well. Take a look at any pictures of the greats, and they ALWAYS look stylin', whether it's a pork-pie hat, a sharkskin suit, or a tuxedo.
I am 56, and I can tell you the crowd I ran with did not go for "image". It was about the music, always! The stadium rock bands of the eighties were into image. WE bought albums before we ever saw what these folks looked like! You youngsters are spoiled by the instantaneous and all pervasive media of today. Yes they put on a show, but that is different than image.

Image has been in music since the dawn of time.
go back 50 years Elvis = Image, Beatles =Image, Hendrix = Image, KISS = MEGA IMAGE, Jerry Lee Lewis = Image, and on and on
It will never change, people will have a image, controversy sells, remember when Elvis was on the Ed Sullivan show they wouldnt tape him from the waist down cause he did the shimmy shake, that was controversial and it sold.
Image is a huge thing in music, and making your image what you want it to be is your decision and you should never feel bad about doing something that makes you happy.
You want to pimp that Pbass then let your mind run wild, and think of the coolest thing you can imagine and make it a reality and never look back.
Now with that said, Red Tort guard, and PU/Bridge covers would look snazzy on black.

I know a lot of muscicians that are excelent muscicians, that do it for the music, but they also like having a look. Why does it has to be one or the other?????
And, on the topic, for a black precision, I like a black pickguard, it really adds something, or maybe another colour. You could actually have the bridge cover instaled, stuff like that.

I put those pick-ups in mine, though at the time I didn't know what "vintage" sounded like. Those Seymour Duncan look old the poles have a rusty on them.
Let me see if i can get my camera to work so I can take some pictures of them.

It would be interesting to see the average age of the folks who like relics.
I still disagree about image. It was about the music FIRST. Later you needed image to compete.
Whether or not Elvis shook his hips, that voice was marketable.

Pork pie hats were what they wore, and then became part of the image of a blues player. I wear one myself everyday. I apologize for not smiling, I was playing with a chap from OZ who played SRV in a cover band and I didn't want to screw up! And I took off the silk hat band, put the leather "belt" on it and pull down the front, just to make it "mine". And yes, it is a NEW hat!

I'm sure the percentage of image involved is higher than 50%...I'll go with tone and musicianship anyday.

your shirt has something printed on it, you must of liked it or you wouldnt of accepted it so in return that is part of your image.

Image is a part of music just as the music is, SRV was one of the most flamboyent dressers out there and it was a image thing, but man he played with more soul then 90% of people on this board. So the its about Image more than the music is a crock.
You can have a image and still play damn good music, and care about the music.
I think the old timer is afraid of something. maybe not fitting in or something.
Im 35 years old my average relic client has been 35-50 not young kids. Hate to break that to ya but its people in our age range buying the relics.

If you "need an image to compete," then it is and was about image, regardless of how much you put into the music.

Except I was at a Rickenbacker weekend among 50 or so friends, and 100 or so Ricks, no image needed. However, a tshirt was!!
I don't like black, he did, "image" not needed for the decision. I guess maybe its who ya dress for..yourself(within reason of course) or others .
