Pimp my P-bass

A quote by Lou Adler - "When I am first told of a new group, I don't want to see them, I want to hear them without any interference or distractions". He said this in an interview about the Mamas and the Papas back in the day, and was referring to "image".

I only came back to this thread to pass this on to the folks who understand.

I will ignore those who deserve it.

My take is 75 per cent should be talent. The other 25% is image and marketing. Nothing to overlook, but certainly not the holy grail. You can swap those numbers but it won't last.
In a perfect world, this is true, but it's by far not a perfect world. Even if it was true at one time, you think the Mamas and Papas didn't have an image? Image doesn't always mean "pretty."

Well, the Frisco scene was quite different back then, and I do believe that statement Lou Adler made to a certain extent, but I notice that most of the acts he signed fit into a certain mold of hippie bands with a lot of charisma. And Cheech and Chong.

Anyway, to get back to the thread, pimp that bass any way you want! Have an image and make it a good one!
