pinheads - New Debate Website

Hey everyone.
For some reason, I suddenly had a nitch to make a debate website last night. Idk why, but I think it turned out pretty cool. I'm just testing it out, so everything might be a little glitchy. The actual forum itself is just a test forum, and if it starts to gain a few users, I'll make a real forum.

Here's what it is:
It allows you to make new topics up for debate or to debate previous topics, and you don't even have to register. You can search debates, or even join in on debates going on now.

I know it sounds sketchy without registering, but when I start a real forum, it should allow me to make certain rules and regulations that stop people from making non-debate topics.

The reason I'm telling you guys, is because I have found talkbass to be the most respectful and mature forum I have ever used, so I trust you all to stick with what the website is actually about.

Thanks and please give me your feedback!

That sounds like a really cool idea! This probably goes without saying, but if you want a high quality site, you'll need to be stringent with the moderation to keep things from devolving into pissing matches and ad hominem flame wars.

Do you have a link?

This is exactly my reasoning for posting on talkbass rather than a discussion forum. If people do start getting on it, I'll definitely assign moderators and possibly require registration, but that's in the distant future anyways.

I think it's a good idea for a forum, however the anonymity reduces any sort of accountability for one's statements. I've got a feeling that with some of those topics and internet anonymity, the debates could get downright hostile in time.

Perhaps a way to register each user for accountability but allow them to anonymize their answers, so at least an admin would be able to block a user if he/she gets out of hand.

There are a lot of great debate topics posted on the site. My concern with a site like this, as others have said, is that it will degenerate into name-calling and flaming pretty quickly. There's a bicycling board I used to frequent that has a "politics only" forum, and mostly what goes on there are the same 6 or 7 people hurling the same insults at each other over and over and over. With careful moderation I suppose it could be done well, but ... good luck.

Thanks, as soon as I get the new forum up and running I'll start to ask people to moderate it.
