I hear what you're saying about the vocalist not matching up with the video but the drummer is right on it from the beginning. Might be the video of the actual basic track with the vocalist overdubbing later.

I'm thinking that might be the case. It's one continuous video take, starting at the very beginning with Gadson very obviously playing that little fill before the take begins and no video cuts in between. The audio cuts from the phone into the mixed track. The drums, bass, and guitar parts are all verbatim. Can't see the keys.

Whatever the bass is, it sounds great. Pino's dynamics are insane too. I'm not surprised, since he's a player's player, but still impressive.

That's actually very much true, and could have very much been another bass on the video.

Way back when in another time, I used my Alembic bass on a tune we recorded, but the video producer didn't like the looks of the Alembic and insisted I use my Fender Jazz bass for the video shoot. And funny, I don't remember anyone saying, "Hey bass tone doesn't match up with the bass in that video".
(wow, I had forgotten about that video until now. I've no idea if there's even a copy around. I just searched, it's not on YouTube. No shock there....)

So "guilty as charged" on that front.....

Unless it's really supposed to look "live", I just use whatever bass is visually best for the video (within reason of course---seeing an upright while you're hearing a bass guitar is pretty silly IMO but it's certainly been done, and by some big artists).

The mostly-originals band I'm in does a few covers, including a couple Tom Petty songs. Our singer always used the bad dad-joke "keep your eye on him, he'll go far" after one of the Petty tunes. It was ok and got a laugh, then Petty died.

I finally listened through my headphones and I love how Pino sounds. He sounds very close to the way he sounds on his Precision to my ears.
