PJ bass recommendations?

I totally agree with the reverse P - much flatter bottom end.

Since you prefer passive, you will need a humbucker J eg a stack PU, or you will end up with some noise problems.

Passive basses are usually badly shielded too.
I recommend that the P is 'wrap shielded', and all live wiring is coaxial shielded too. Like your bass-amp lead right?

Yeah that’s the downside of passive production basses and I already have shielding materials ready to go if needed. Debating on this Stingray idea now. May go play one and see.

Hey all. I’m in the hunt for a four string PJ bass. Preferably passive. I have two Fender Am Pro IIs, a Precision and a Jazz. I love the matte neck finishes and the feel of both basses. Each has their place in my arsenal.

I recently played a Spector Euro 4 LX that is beautiful but of course active electronics and I’m not sure I wanna go that route. Love the bass though.

Then I saw this photo online and LOVE the look of this bass. What is your go to production PJ? Not opposed to custom just probably out of my price range

Thanks! View attachment 5340409

N series MIA Fender PB. I’ve had it for 20 years now and it one of the best playing, best sounding Fender bass I’ve ever touched. It’s been through thousands of gigs, hundreds of sessions and it’s going to the grave with me..

Ive always loved that bass as well, and the Lakland 44-64 comes extremely close! Matching headstock, passive, blocks on the fretboard...and it comes in other colors as well.

I've been looking at the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] model lately. It's a 32" scale PJ config in both 4 & 5 string models. 24 frets. I love the colors. Yeah, it's active, but I like that.

I have an LK4. It's actually switchable to passive. A great bass! The neck is exceptional! I should mention that between the 24 frets and 32" scale the pickup locations are going to be a bit different than a typical P/J but it sounds pretty great, so...
