Well, that's just my own personal real world experience with the one I had.Huh. I've got a 97 California Precision Special with the maple fret board and it punches way above it's weight in terms of playability and fullness of tone up and down the neck and across the strings. The only complaint I've had is the volume pot crapped out after about 10 years.
I don’t doubt it, I know you speak from honest experience and a discerning ear. I just wonder if I got lucky or you got unlucky.Well, that's just my own personal real world experience with the one I had.
I'd say the former.I tried various things to try and mitigate that thin G string;I don’t doubt it, I know you speak from honest experience and a discerning ear. I just wonder if I got lucky or you got unlucky.
My shopping list expandedSome nice suggestions here recently but did anyone see post #46![]()
Pretty cool options out thereFender Mod Shop?
Killer looking bass. I played one and really like them. That pick guard is sweet! My #2 bass is the American Performer, which I love! Very reasonable weight, fast neck (though not Jazz thin) and the Yosemites are very underrated pups. They provide a strong output and very good lows, in my opinion.

A PJ really needs an active circuit to sound good in my opinion. That’s why the Spector is so legendary. You basically played the very best PJ. Anything else will not be as good.Hey all. I’m in the hunt for a four string PJ bass. Preferably passive. I have two Fender Am Pro IIs, a Precision and a Jazz. I love the matte neck finishes and the feel of both basses. Each has their place in my arsenal.
I recently played a Spector Euro 4 LX that is beautiful but of course active electronics and I’m not sure I wanna go that route. Love the bass though.
Then I saw this photo online and LOVE the look of this bass. What is your go to production PJ? Not opposed to custom just probably out of my price range

STP!!!The bass looks cool in that photo because Robert DeLeo is playing it. He could play a beat up Squier with only 3 strings and it would still look great.
If I were looking for a PJ, I'd see if any stores had a Fender Duff McKagan Deluxe in stock and take it for a test drive. Good luck in your search.
