PJ with actives

I have a PJ with emgs and I like the sound but I would like to
know what after market passives would come close as I'm
a bit weary of the battery issue.
I cant afford High dollar so Imports aren't out of the question.

Any recommendations?

ive never played your EMGs but I just put a set of Seymour Duncan "hots" in my fender PJ and it cooks. The Fender has a stock active pre. I had the Quarter pounders in it before which were cool but not my ideal tone.

What battery issue are you worried about, the batteries dying? Just make sure you unplug the bass when it's not in use, and change the battery every 6 months no matter what.

I've found that EMG's really have their own sound. You might get close with something else, but if you like the sound I wouldn't change.

The battery will last 5-6 months easy if you use duracell alkaline. Providing like new performance. Just write a date on it or little peice of paper you put in with the battery so you know when it was installed at later time when wondering how long its been in for. Actually you could probably get 7-8 months use from durecell alkaline battery without any significant loss of tone or volume.

As far as closest to active emg in passive, their newest Hz pup versions, Not selects nor other older passive versions. But keep in mind that there is a noticeable tone tweak from the conversion to lowZ that the active emgs have. I like this tone change, gives broader sound and little more detail. This is same tone tweak that passive pups get when you add an active preamp due to it changing the signal to lowz at the instrument.

Are you saying you like the HZ tone change better and have you used them?
