Oh, I forgot to mention that Jon is folding a slice of proper triangular Plain Cheese Pizza.
Not surprised they ordered plain cheese pizza for TV.
I've had the "you don't know good pizza" thing three times, even after explaining I've had pizza in Sicily.

When it comes to pizza, New Yorkers have convinced themselves they actually live in Italy.
The irony is that even after having pizza in the old country I still like Sicilian pizza in the U.S. better.
Best was in Queens, right near the hotel I stayed.
The local shop is quite good as well, but again ironically someone else here prefers Pizza Hut.

I thinks some people are swayed by advertising. And they stay away from mom and pops subconsciously.
The PH ads are definitely compelling & they're half the price of the local Sicilian shop, after using their coupon.

I see it somewhat differently. My thoughts are they are advertising convenience more than anything. Kids' birthday party or sleepover? Call Dominos. Impromptu lunch meeting at work? Pizza Hut can provide it quickly.
I try to avoid the 'fast-food' pizza chains whenever possible (Pizza Hut/Dominos/Pap John's/etc), and usually order from the mom & pop holes-in-the-wall. Some are hit or miss, but once I find a good one I'll stick with them.
We have a tavern here that makes my favorite thin crust pizza. The crust is hand rolled, baked, and then the toppings are put on and it goes back into the oven to finish baking. The crust is very flavorful and crunchy like a cracker. Their ingredient to make it that way is lard.
My topping of choice is just the pepperoni.

In college they'd order Domino's for any of their pizza parties & they'd get half of them as plain cheese pizzas. Those were the worst pizza I've had, so I skipped if they only had plain cheese left.
Yeah, I've had good Margherita pizza (not from a chain), but it's not something I'd typically order.
OK, now I get it, after my comment about Domino's plain cheese pizza, which is awful.
There is obviously good plain cheese pizza out there, but I won't be ordering it.

If you actually want to serious about it, what do you get when you go to Italy and you order pizza? Thin dough, mozzarella or Parmesan cheese (depending on where you are), olive oil, tomatoes, and basil. Just like if you order spaghetti with meat sauce, the waiter will probably give you a funny look (and/or know you are American).
If you're tired of the condescension, maybe don't start threads with condescending posts.
