"Plastic" brass knuckles as a self-defense item?

In New Orleans, you can use anything you want to defend yourself. Hell, two years ago I broke up a fight where one guy was beating the other guy to death with a tire iron. He claimed self-defense in court - and got off. Apparently he carries a tire iron in his pocket for "just in case".

There must've been a background story or there must be other facts to this case which explains how he got off with self defence. Notwithstanding that, anyone can use anything to defend themselves within reason.

Also, a tire iron is a tire iron. It's not a weapon until you use it as such. Technically speaking, no one could stop you from walking around with a baseball bat either.

Has anyone ever seen a picture of a person that has been beaten by brass knuckles? It is not pretty. I remember seeing a TBer post pictures of himself after he got jumped and attacked with brass knuckles, and he looked terrible. Those can do some major, major damage.

That's rather off the topic of the post, but brass knuckles can do some pretty nasty damage.

Apparently they're made of high-impact plastic and are supposed to be as strong as the metal version... and I had a look into Illinois state law which specifies "metal knuckles" in their unlawful use of weapons but nothing about plastic... thinking I might pick up a pair to keep in my pocket. Good thing to have "just in case"

IF you use them as a weapon .... they'll be seen as one, legal or not. If by chance, the cops find you with them .... legal or not .... they'll take'em (you'll get them back at the end of the school year. ).

"High-Impact" plastic or not .... they won't do as much damage as real "brass knuckles". Unless they are as heavy, they just won't come close... sure they'll hurt and leave a mark, but the bone crushing ability of these vs. brass, will be lacking. The thing about "brass knuckles" isn't just that they are hard, but the weight adds to the inertia ... thus adds to the damage done (almost like punching someone with a roll of quarters in your fist).

i have a friend who carries a collapsible night stick. but im not sure if it is legal or not.

These are illegal in many states for regular citizens to carry. Best to check, if you intend on carring one on your person.

IMO .... a swift couple of kicks to the nads, followed by a few more to the kidneys will do the trick (yes, I've been a dirty enough bastard to do this). After the pain of the "family jewels" subsides .... then come the peeing blood. It'll freak them out well after you've gone.

Maybe I'm lucky but I really can't remember the last time I've felt insecure enough to consider the need to carry a weapon, aside from my pocket knife, which realistically would be the last thing I'd want to use in an ugly situation.

Take a self-defense class and get your esteem up instead of wasting money on junk that'll probably cause you more trouble than it'll ever stave off.
