Played Godin Classic 4 Yesterday

I was at GC yesterday and they had a used Godin Classic 4 that I tried. I thought it was really solid. The neck was jazz at nut, but more 'P' feeling up the neck. Maple fingerboard, frets were well dressed, very comfortable to play. I really liked the four way switch, each with their own tone. I really thought it was a wonderful. Thinking of picking it up, would complement bt Fender P. $599 might be a bit high for used, but they are hard to find. I would be moving MIM Jazz 5 to finance, which is nice. However, I don't have time now to learn the 5 and I keep drifting to my 'p'.

Anyone played the Classic 4? Takeaways?

I have not, but the design always appealed to me except for the J-nut width. Seems Godin's in general have gotten a lot of love on the forum over the years.

Yeah i've got a shifter classic, does a fine job of sounding like a good old p (/j) bass. I found the hardware / pots are a little rough but it's a solid mid-range bass. I'd say they stand in line with MIA fender. Solid instrument, good punch, I like the pickups. If you want a solid work horse sort of bass these are really good.

I have a Shifter Classic 4, it is an outstanding instrument. Fit/finish top notch, components are very nice. Selector switch does give you 4 very nice and different tones. I was looking for an MIA P and couldn't find one with a neck I liked, and then I tried the Godin. No need for a P now. It is my number 1 bass. (Also have an MIM Jazz, a Schecter and a Gretsch).
