Played my first SVT with 810 last night

I was auditioning for a band, and they had set up an SVT Classic with the 810 stack.

Wow, it felt completely different than my Traynor YBA 200 and cheap GK 410. When I dug in on the chorus, it it just filled the whole place. When I locked with the kick, it made the whole thing sound like a single note played by the thunder gods. And, to my amazement, it handled the high notes (E on the G string) with grace.

Now I finally understand why they're the industry standard.

You have to use an SVT with a band before you can make an educated decision on whether you like them or not. I never cared for them in store, but OMG do they sound amazing with a band.

Well even your YBA200 would kick twice as much, if you double it's speaker it's amplifying thru. One GK410 + another GK410 & you'll go close to one 8x10.
But, yes there ain't nothing quite like an SVT> 810

I gotta say the love for me primarily comes from the 8x10. Those cabs just ROCK!
Not a big SVT fan, but basically, the formula for me is:
*tube head of choice*+8x10 cab=Heaven

Agreed, the magic is the 810 not the head. I have used dozens of amps tube and SS, as long as I have my 810 I can make it work.

YBA200 and an 810E work great together.

I have to agree with about the cab, I run from a VT Deluxe through a GK 1001RB II through a Ampeg 810E and HOLY %$#@.....

Agreed Marco, more speakers are more efficient. I have tried and listened to videos of the SVT-CL, and had not liked it. I do love the SVT-VR, that things is insane.

I wonder what my Orange AD200B would sound like through a 8x10...

+1. I`ve never played anything Ampeg in a band setting - only in-store. And I was highly unimpressed. But then again, I used to say the same thing about P basses, too, until I saw that magic happen.

And don't forget to knobs are not calibrated - so tweak them on your heads when you compare them.

Beats me what the OP meant by "high notes (E on the G string)".

If it was D and G, then any bass amp should be able to handle that.

Don't! A 4x10 and 1x15 pairing is a lousy match.
